Hi, We are considering relocating to Virginia Beach, VA or Dallas, TX which would be a big move for us. I am doing some research on doctors, etc. Does anyone live in either of these cities and have any input on doctors and the amount of programs available? We have been blessed to have some good, very proactive doctors and support from early intervention programs and would want that to continue. Thanks! _____ No virus found in this message. Guest guest
I'm in Ft. Worth, which is about 30 miles east of Dallas. We moved here about a year and a half ago from Houston. Hospital wise, it ain't Houston. Dallas has one main pediatric hospital, Dallas Children's, and Ft. Worth has Cook Children's. I've been pretty happy with Cook's, but may check out Dallas in the future. There is also ish Rite, which is kind of like Shriner's Hospitals, in that all the care is free if your child qualifies. I've heard that they are excellent, that the doctors they get are VERY good, BUT, you have to apply and be accepted. Their main concentration is orthopedic issues, so you have to get in with a scoliosis or something, and then go from there. They denied Maureen based on the fact that they " didn't see enough potential for improvement " with her orthopedic issues. I always keep Houston in my back pocket. It's about a 4 hour drive away, so if there were ever anything we needed to go to the " best of the best " I'd make the drive down there. We did make the drive down there to get Maureen started on the ketogenic diet, because our neuro down there was especially good, and studied under Dr. Dobyns. But obviously, for emergencies and acute care, we have to have a network up here, so I'm still working on that. Government benefits-wise, I've heard really high praise for TX. I don't know any better, since we've lived here since Maureen was born, but I have to say we haven't had too many difficulties. I just met a mom the other day who moved here from Arizona, and she said Texas is way better than AZ for benefits. There are several waiver programs that can be applied for. We got one, which qualified Maureen for Medicaid, and it's been pretty easy since then. Medicaid is MAGIC. They cover everything, her formula, her diapers, pretty much all the equipment we've ordered so far, her home nursing. There are even programs to reimburse your mileage for driving to appointments, and sometimes to reimburse you food expenses for hospital stays. Feel free to ask anything I've forgotten. -c- To: polymicrogyria From: hjlsanders@... Date: Wed, 29 Feb 2012 18:54:55 +0000 Subject: Anyone in VA Beach or Dallas?
