Guest guest
Our son had a nose picking issue and we took him to the doctor just to be safe. Sure enough he had shoved paper up his nose that was stuck so high we couldn't see it. Just a thought, but maybe it might be a good idea to have the doctor look in there. Otherwise, OCD makes sense. Maybe an ENT might know of some useful aversive to put in there to get him to stop. >From: meljackmom <meljackmom@...> >Date: 2007/05/24 Thu AM 10:12:47 CDT > >Subject: Re: Nose picking > >I wonder too if it is a " something " in there. Guest guest
- I can relate to the nailpicking leading to toepicking, except my son bites his nails to the nub almost & at times has started on his toenails. Dr. G definately doesn't like the toenail thing becausae of the possibility of infection. You said your son stopped after antibiotic treatment... did Dr. G prescribe that? What was the antibiotic for exactly? This has peaked my interest! Thanks- --- meljackmom <meljackmom@...> wrote: > I wonder too if it is a " something " in there. Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestion. If he hasn't stopped in the next few days I'll see if I can get him in to see the doctor. A few of you have suggested that there may be something up there bothering him, so at least with a doctor's visit I can rule that out. Also, what is A & D ointment? Ann I think you said you used that, but I'm not sure what it is. Is it a nasal lubricant? , very interesting. My guy bites his finger nails and toe nails. He's not after his toes now that he has his nose to go after. I wonder what makes them do this? He was on an antibiotic for the first time ever six weeks ago and from past posts I knew that it may help him with other things so I watched very carefully, but alas, it didn't. He still chewed his nails while taking it. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Rhoda Re: Nose picking > >I wonder too if it is a " something " in there. Guest guest
A & D is a first aid cream. Lots of folks use it as a diaper rash cream. You can find it with the Desitin and other diaper rash ointments. It is good stuff. They have a regular version (yellow/brown box) and a zinc oxide (blue box) version. I'd assume you'd want the regular version. I use it on my baby's bottom all the time and I prefer the regular version. :-)Tera " It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it " . Guest guest
Hi all, Not sure if this is relates to your children but when my sonwas on Prozac he started biting his nails and picking the skin around them until it bleed. This behavior stopped after he was switched to Lexapro. Recently he started picking his nose . We determined that this started the same time that allergy season did. I use a nasal spray to lubricate his nasal passages and this has really helped. We also had to talk with him about the social issues relating to nose picking( this is not socially acceptable in mainstream second grade !! ). He's finally given it up for the most part. I also replaced the behavior with a more socially acceptable one. ( I told him that he can use his hand and rub the outside of his little nose if it itches, but he cannot pick at all). Guest guest
That's interesting... I'd love to hear someone's explanation.
