Guest guest
Pearl I haven't heard of Ribose...lol...so of course now I have something new to surf the web about. Some of the things a quick search told me was that benefit claims are pretty much unsubstantiated. It " may " help heart (angina) problems. Be careful taking it if you have hypoglycemia or are diabetic. Also, It can cause diarrhea. Other than that is seems fairly benign. Keep us informed on what you find out. I glad you enjoyed your trip. I'm thrilled I scare you into being worried if you miss a supplement now and then...lol...it keeps you vigilant! Great news on your labs being good...it's really important in the healing process after surgery!!! YeaHHHHH...No supplement IV's for Pearl!!! (those Iv's are what scare the heck out of me also...I'm taking a moment to tiptoe into the kitchen for another dose of calcium) Hugs Jo waiting to learn more about ribose
Guest guest
Pearl, Ribose is a sugar and is the building block of RNA. I have never heard of its use as a supplement, so I have no input into the discussion. Whatever makes you feel mentally prepared for surgery, as long as it isn't specifically bad for you, should be okay. Marta > > Jo, Marta or any others who might know. Guest guest
Pearl, Sounds like you are doing great to begin with. My PS had advice about what to take pre op and it didn't do any good as I still had a few problems. I think protein loading and making sure your getting your vitamins is the best thing you can do for yourself. I have fibro, and am very weary about any OTC drug that is supposed to be good for fibro. Too many snake oil salesmen out there that want to sell you guaranteed cures. Fibro is so wierd in that you can be fine one minute and if th ewether changes be in severe pain by nightfall. So Anyone who tells me that they are cured makes me wonder if they ever had the illness to begin with. Fibro isn't just aches and pains and being tired yet some docs with diagnois people who are achy and tired(you know those generalized complaints we all have sometimes) with " a touch of fibromyalgia " . I have seen people who have it and know people who say they have it and know that they don't have what I have. So Take fibro cures with a grain of salt. I also wonder about any miracle cure that is just plain old vitamins we should be taking anyway every day. Also as a warning there are several herbs that can and will postpone your surgery if the annesthesiologists find you are taking them. They can cause fatal complications with annesthesia. Make sure your doc knows everything your taking. I wouldn't take anything without Ok'ing it through him! I remember the man who was at the hospital for a week with uncontroled B/P we tried everything we knew to get him down and regulated. One nurse accidently found out he was taking a " harmless herb " to cure impotency and after looking it up found out that the herb was the problem. One day off of it and no B/p meds needed. We had been giving him B/p meds under the tongue to reduce his B/p below stroke levels. He could have killed himself over a " Harmless herb " , Remeber That digitalis, one of our strongest heart meds started as a herb that older people used to " cure " heart " dropsy " ....LOL. Many years and lots of knowledge later it is a drug that is widely given. Be careful with herbs as we don't always know how we can react. Lots of people think herbs are always good for you. Your body can react to anything you put in it. Jo, Marta, and others Jo, Marta or any others who might know. I have a question about something called ribose, put out by a company called Valen Lab. It can be called CORvalen or CORvalenM. Among the uses I have read about, is for fibromyalgia, but the one I am especially interested in is it is supposed to help with surgery recovery. Do any of you know anything about this? I have a surgery date of November 10th to have my hernia repair and panni removal and I am trying to get myself ready and get anything that will help make a faster, easier recovery. I read the info online, but I would like to have input from others about this product. It sounds good, but you know the old adage about if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Well, I want to be sure about it being for us DS'ers. The info on it says it is basically good for everyone and helps give enery to all. It even mentioned helping neuropathy. I have severe neuropathy and I would welcome any help with that.It has now gone all the way up my legs into my hips from my toes, and my hands. So I would love some help with that. I am looking forward to no longer having this panni and hernia. Then comes the boob reduction or whatever it will be called where he brings them up and makes them smaller. All my life I have wanted that done. I had DD's when I was 12, so I always wanted it done. I was a 48II when I had the DS and am down to a F, but I so want to be a C or D and to have my arms done. Then I will be happy. I just got back from a fast 5000 mile trip to TN, KY and IN. My brother, daughter and I drove back, he picked up a pickup his son in KY gave him and we came back. We visited with my daughter and grandkids, his son, daughter and his grandkids and some friends, got to go to a Ham Fest and then headed home. We had a day both going and coming that the weather just poured on us, but we would start out great and end up great. We had fun though. Next spring I will do it again, but just with my daughter and take more time. I have a lot of relatives I like to stop and visit along the way. We had to get back because I had tests and such I had to get done in order to be ready for this surgery. My labs came back, and they are all good. I worry each time that they are going to go down somewhere, as I have heard some of you talk about yours doing. I get scared that I will have to have those IV's. I try, I really do JO, to get my supplements in everyday. Every once in awhile I miss a dose and I worry about it. That is why I want to know about this Ribose. It is supposed to give a person energy and be good to get a person going after surgery. Pearl
