Freecycle for one, Deborah, and I bet you'll get one in a day or two for nothing. Just go to www.freecycle.org, join your local list (or lists; there are two in both of my locales, so I'm on four), and you'll be amazed at not only what you can dispose of to people who will be incredibly appreciative but also what you can get for free from people who will also be incredibly appreciative that you took it off their hands.

I've cleaned out most of my basement this way, plus found some pretty esoteric things that I would never have found otherwise (like a Microsoft Office 97 Utility Disk).
