Guest guest
I've been weaning my son off his SSRI (Paxil) for a long time now and now that he's not taking any anymore he is having a tough time. Dr. G's office told us to take him from 1/2 a 10 mg pill to 1/4 for two weeks and then off. I felt this was too fast and had been told by a few adults that it was a very tough thing to come off of this drug, so my family doctor and I decided to do it very slowly. He did 1/2 and 1/3 alternating for two weeks, 1/3 for two weeks, 1/3 and 1/4 for two weeks, 1/4 for two weeks and 1/4 and nothing alternating for two weeks. His last day of taking any was March 8. He was okay for the first few days, but by Monday night he was having crying/weeping sessions that lasted for several hours and he never usually cries (he has always been a very happy kid). He has been like this all week and is eating very little. Since it has been going on for so long, I am starting to get concerned. I feel horrible that he was ever exposed to this garbage and I feel responsible for putting him through this misery. Has anyone else had any experience with weaning their child off Paxil? Is any of this familiar and when will it end? Thanks. Rhoda
