Hello Everyone,

Has anyone ever had a problem with Difucan. We had been off for awhile.

When we started up again things seemed fine. However looking back now I think

we also started having more OCD and Stimminy behavior at the same time. We

had gone such a long time without this it is upsetting.

Any thoughts would be great.

One you might want to do is find out if the Diflucan has been made with

different ingredients (i.e. a different filler) than before. Could it have

come from a different manufacturer? Also could your child be coming down

with an illness? Or could the ingredients have been changed in one of the

foods she eats?

Did you use a different generic maker for Diflucan?

Is there a difference in the color? Do you use a

white pill or does it have pink?

How long have you been back on? Is it getting

progressively worse (even if subtle)?

Although kids can be sensitive to Diflucan itself,

it's pretty rare and unusual. More often than not,

it's the dye in the med. Also, resistance is

possible. What dose are you doing (age and weight

too)?

Was anything else added at the same time, like a

change in probiotics? Lactobacillus can increase OCD.

Other naughty gut flora can as well, so it's also

entirely possible - and maybe more likely - that when

starting back, the gut flora 'balance' was altered,

and perhaps re-colonized w/a negative flora (not

necessarily a bad one). Were you previously using

another antifungal while off the Diflucan?

Options - look for dye-free version if not using

already, or have compounded dye-free.

Trial of erythromycin to see if there's a reduction in

symptoms.

Change probiotics to straight acidophilus if on

anything else, or add if there are no probiotics.

There's also the possiblity that strep or mycoplasma

are present despite the timing of the switch. I've

had lots of times that the timing of something threw

me off because I associated the change in behavior due

to a change in med. Same thing w/diet ... I don't

always question things that I never associated a

problem w/before. It can be very frustrating. :)

In my experience, OCD is going to come and go. Just

about any bacterial infection is going to set it off,

with the occasional respite when the body is 'cooled

down'. Be sure to reduce stress and provide some

relaxing and deep-body stimulating activities w/a lot

of 'proprioceptive input' (carrying heavy objects,

stretching, swinging, hanging from a bar or holding

upside down by feet, 'wheelbarrow', etc.) to help

manage behavior and calm the body and brain.

Hope some of that helps find the link. If it hangs in

too long, you'll definitely want to do a journal to

track it down.

My son was switched from Nizoral to Diflucan last August and it was

HORRIBLE. He HAD TO open-shut/slam doors CONSTANTLY and when he wasn't doing

that, he was whining or screaming. For DAYS. Then, it ended, and he was the

sweetest, calmest little thing with great eye contact and more language.

I have heard deactivated charcoal can be helpful, but we have not tried it.

Hang in there!

Hi all,

I use activated charcoal all the time when my son reacts to a food or is

having die-off symptoms. It really works well. He swallows the capsuls

without anyone trouble now but in the past I would open the capsules and mix

them in pear sauce. We call it monster sauce and he thinks it funny.

Good luck if you decide to try it !
