Hi Sharolyn,

My son also appears to be jaundiced but actually was not converting

beta-carotene into vitamin A. This was a result of hypothyroidism,

secondary to pituitary dysfunction. You should check your son's thyroid

function and schedule an appt. with an ped. endocrinologist. IMHO

Take care,

This probably isn't the case, but has he been eating a lot of carrots or

drinking carrot juice or even sweet potatoes? I knew someone who had orange

hands from drinking carrot juice... it was little weird!

I would definitely get him in to the doc on this one to check it out,

though... even if he has been eating lots of carrots!

Yes my 1st guess would be liver function and best to rule this out

with a lab test. Like you said, I would follow up with a phone call

to the office.

I would defiantly take him to the doctor to have a liver function test. It is a

blood test. I have had liver dysfunction myself and it makes you feel horrible.

I was tired and itching in strange places. Sheri

I took my oldest tot he doctor because he turned orange when he was a baby. I

started giving him carrots and squash because he has albinism and at the time

was legally blind and so I wanted to get the carotene in him for eye

development. When the Ped. Saw him he exclaimed, " What are you feeding him. " I

told him and he began to laugh but the scolded me and told me to tapper off a

bit before he was florescent. LOL Sheri

I saw this in my own daughter on and off for years prior to her beginning

treatment. Recently a child in our clinic came in for the first time with a

healthy color! Autism is a systemic disease,

  • 3 years later...

I confess that I have been taking beta carotene. But I finally ordered the

Garden of Life cod liver oil and Natural Factors halibut liver oil last week, so

I will switch over to these as my source of real vitamin A - i.e., retinol.

Thanks for shedding light on my yellow skin problem. :)

that others have mentioned the hair loss issue, but I didn't know about yellow

skin. Is this a normal healing reaction?

10,000 IU - I've been taking this amount for several years, but the yellow skin

is a relatively new problem.

Do you think you should just check in with your doctor to make sure it

isn't jaundice?

+++, will know very soon whether she is yellow because of taking

beta carotene.
