Acyclovir Vs. Famvir

I just went through a trial of putting my son on Acyclovir to try and

save us money because Famvir is so expensive. My son after 10 days is so

out of it. He started the school year off fairly well, but now it's

pretty bad. He is standing up in the middle of class saying

inappropriate things, not doing any work, tapping two pencils

constantly, hyper and running around, and generally in his own world. I'm

pretty sure it is because of the change in anti-viral. We did change the

anti-fungal twenty days ago. I saw a little die-off and then only

improvement from this initially but maybe we did these changes too close

together. I had run out of Famvir and had a full bottle of Acyclovir and

asked Dr G if I could do this to save some money. He's EOS went back up

to 5% also when we had them down to 1%. I have not changed his diet. He

did have a few infractions at parties which caused very weird behavior

so I know I can't even allow that at this time but I didn't think that

would bring the EOS up so much if that's what did it. I guess I am

really baffled, scared and sad. I don't know if any of you have input

here but I would greatly appreciate it. I'm wondering if anyone else has

experienced any of this. Also, if Marcia could respond about whether her

son is still on an anti-viral and if it is Famvir. I don't know how we

are going to afford it for so long but I guess I will have to figure out

a way. Thanks so much, Jerri
