If I were you I would get a second opinion. I think your regular doc

is onto something. A rheumatologist is probably your best choice.

Maybe see the doctor your mother does. FM is hereditary. All I can

say is keep on it until you get a definate diagnosis. Be very

truthful when you go to the doctor. Don't sugar coat anything. Tell

them how you truly feel. I've been in your shoes. It is very

frustrating to not know what is going on. Hang in there. Let us know

where you live and maybe someone in the group will recommend a doc to

see.

CFS/Fibro is often a disease of elimination of other possibilities. A

diagnosis without a treatment plan makes no sense to me. Does unexplained

mean he is stumped or needs time to consider the possibilities and what to

do next? Does your gut say he is on the right track or going down the wrong

path? Some doctors merely want to treat symptoms and some want to cure.

Can you find a specialist in the area of Environmental Health? Can your

regular doctor provide a referral since he seems to think it is CFS/FMS? If

it is FMS, a Rheumatologist is the appropriate diagnosing specialty. A

different neurologist might be helpful - my neurologist is very well versed

in CFS and FMS. I go to him for his expertise, to an

Internist/Environmental Health Specialist for most everything else, and a

D.O. for monthly manipulations. A good D.O. that could do OMT (manipulation

therapy) on you might be very helpful.

What area of the country are you located? If we knew, then maybe someone

near by could give you a more specific doctor recommendation.

You sound like you have a good husband. Celebrate that! This is a journey,

it will have ups and downs, but it IS a battle than can be won. You know

your own body and you know it is not right. You will have to persist and

insist on getting to a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. When you go to

the doctor, be well prepared. I find it best to have a list prepared a day

or two before. Doctors can read and assimilate a lot of information very

quickly and a typed sheet allow you to present in an organized way what you

need him to know. Can save much time during the appointment.

Wishing you better health and a speedy journey to answers and effective

treatment.

I really feel for you. I have been struggling with pain since I was

about 15 years old and it has just gotten worse over the years. I

have seen some many physicians that have told me that they don't know

what is wrong and it is just something I am going to have to live

with I have even had Physical Therapists tell me this. Out of

desperation I tried a Rheum. doctor who told me the same thing as all

of the other doctors. I did most of my research online and I found a

website that actually gives you a check list to fill out and take to

your physician to show them that your problem is real. It was

amazing how differenty I have been treated since then. I was

correclty dx with fibro, cfs as well as DJD (I already knew I had

this)and since then they have all been willing to help and listen

instead of treat me like I was crazy. I don't remember the exact

website but if you just search on " Fibromyalgia worksheet " several

different sites come up that have the same form. I would start this

way with your family doctor and then proceed from there.

I wish you all the best in finding someone to listen to you.
