Guest guest
Hi Nana, don’t worry too much about the bloodwork, they usually don’t do the right tests …and…50% of inflammatory arthritis (which is what a rheumy is gonna look for) doesn’t show up on the bloodwork. I have not done the predisone but it could really help…or not. It’s all about controlling inflammation. That is a low dose I believe, but higher doses can really mess with your immune system over time…and contribute to weight gain. Pain treatment is tricky for PWME/CFS, as what works for one does not for another. Good luck with the prednisone and I hope that by now you are experiencing some pain relief! Congrats on the coming new home and grandbaby! The house sounds like a great project…but of course you must make sure not to overdo! Guest guest
I tried prednisone at the begining. It didn't really improve anything. I just noticed that it kept me awake at night. Have you had any luck? Kendra > > Hi, I'm back from the rheumatolagist, bld. work was ok, except liver enzyme is elevated. She has put me on predisone 5mg 3x/day. If its going to work I should know in 72hrs. Any feedback on this would be appreciated. How can you hurt so much and the bld. work be OK??? Isee her again in 2wks.???? Guest guest
I am 35 and have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Prednisone is usually given when inflammation is present. From the past 5 years, I can tell you that Prednisone is a very dangerous drug. I am on a health board for Rheumatoid Arthritis. It causes major issues with bones. No matter how bad my RA gets, I am only given prednisone in an emergency situation, for an extremely short period of time. I've had three rheumatologists over the years and they actually hate prescribing it. Many patients break several bones just taking a slight fall. I've met people that have had to have hips replaced, and fusions done due to having had to take that drug. If your bloodwork is normal, but you start to notice swelling in places that RA hits, I would suggest another opinion. Mine took some time to diagnose, but my knees and xrays showed joint effusions. --- kgilbane82 wrote: > I tried prednisone at the begining. It didn't really > improve > anything. Isee her again in 2wks.???? I have been on prednisone 5mg/day two separate times. Both times I felt really good soon after starting - less pain, fatigue, & brain fog - and stayed on for several months each time before tapering off. The side effects were virtually nil at that dose (for me) and the benefits lingered for a couple of years after I went off them before my body gradually wore down again. I hope that helps, Jayne Calgary

Guest guest
Connie, I'm just jumping into this conversation after reading this one post but when you said your liver enzymes were elevated that sent a red flag up inmy mind. Have you been tested for Hepatitis C? I say that because I've had Fibro for more than 20 years now and I've seen so many docs and have had additional issues with TTP, a rare blood disease. I went for over 10 years before I was finally tested for HepC by my very smart Rheumy (Dr. Zashin). He did the test because my liver enzymes had been elevated periodically for several years. Even if you don't think you could have gotten HepC, I would be safe and have the test anyhow. HepC's symptoms (when they finally start to show) are very similar to Fibro. Also, watch the steriods of any kind...my mom's bones are so brittle and just snapping because she took so many steriods back before Fibro was " discovered " . Steriods are very bad for you in any case...just an FYI from a concerned Fibromite.

Guest guest
I agree ! Prednisone is very dangerous! They do not even like to give it to me for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is used as a last resort drug during a flare when my joint effusions on the knees are so bad! I've had elevated liver enzymes since 1999 they have not been normal. I've been tested for all hepatitis, rare conditions, had biopsy's and MRI's and ultrasounds done and still no answer. Its interesting to see other FMS patients have that issue. Even the medications I take were ruled out. --- bulldoggergal wrote: > Connie, > > I'm just jumping into this conversation after > reading this one post but > when you said your liver enzymes were elevated that > sent a red flag up > inmy mind.
