Guest guest
I just started taking cod liver oil again. I had run out. I used to take Garden of Life. I switched to Carlson’s. The Carlson’s tastes so much better then the Garden of Life. It does not taste fishy at all. I have even been able to get my dear husband to take this brand. I buy it at vitacost.com. Their prices including shipping are hard to beat. Per Carlson’s website there is 400 IU of Vitamin D per teaspoon. I also take the Cod Liver oil for the vitamin A. Most supplements use beta carotene for vitamin a, making the assumption that everyone can convert it to Vitamin A. I was told by someone that hypothyroid folks don’t convert beta carotene into vitamin A well. I have not seen in documentation to prove this but it does make since with all of our conversion issues. So cod liver oil has Vitamin A not beta carotene. This started out as a google of " Effects of Vitamin D on Cortisol Production " , but if you can read all the way to the end, you will see the myriads of effects on the hormone cascade and so many things surrounding it, with autoimmune diseases (including ours) as part of the " leader " effects. This vitamin is now considered to be a Prohormone or maybe even a Hormone because of the way it acts in the body. I have been a night worker for several yrs now, have a disdain for the sun, with extreme eye sensitivity, plus I'm fair skinned and burn very easily. I stay out of the sun more than I'm ever in it, and it may have been the demise of my teeth. Yes, I said teeth. Even though I have taken " perfect " care of my teeth, they have been disintegrating before my eyes for the last two yrs or so, to my dismay. I think I've found my answer. The " cascade " effect. Parathyroid hormone. The deposition of calcium into the bones, including the teeth, even though my blood calcium levels are very good, maybe it's not going and staying in my bones. Look at the multiple problems that deficiency of this " vitamin " can and WILL produce, and even more so in us autoimmune, thyroid compromised people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D
Guest guest
This is probably a lame question, but can I take Cod Liver Oil if I'm allergic to shellfish. I can eat all other kinds of fish, just not crustaceons. Also, I was put on Vitamin D (50,000IU) once a week with my original endo here in Abilene. I just received my compounded Cal/mag/VitD3 yesterday. Can I take the VitD 50,000IU along with that? > > I just started taking cod liver oil again. I had run out. I used to take > Garden of Life. Guest guest
You need to talk to your doc about all of that. Vitamins A and D are fat soluble vitamins and it is possible to overdose on them. When you ask what you can do, you are asking for some direct medical advice, which we cannot give. We can only give general information. We do not want to be practicing medicine without a license. >> This is probably a lame question, but can I take Cod Liver Oil if I'm allergic to shellfish. Guest guest
Oprah had a GYN on yesterday talking about how bad Vit D deficiencies are in the world, not just he US. She said we have been taught to fear the sun, when we were created to need that sun. She said yes, you don't want to burn.., that's what causes cancer. The doctor said we need 10-15 minutes a day in the sun, more if you are dark skinned. She also stated that the RDA is way too low and we don't get enough from fortified milk either. She has a book out too. that is a very good article, I read it several months ago.
