Guest guest
Hi gang, I thought I ought to post this because so many of our kids love . In case any of you haven't seen it in the news yet, there has been a large recall of the Tank Engine Wooden Railroad toys due to lead paint. Below is the link to the recall page. Basically, you download a return form and send back the piece and they will send you a replacement along with a " gift " . Here's the recall link... http://recalls.rc2.com/recalls_Wood_0607.html It may a take a few tries to bring up the page... I did finally get it to come up, though. I'm sure it has a lot of traffic right now. There is also a toll-free number you can call.. 1-866-725-4407... I haven't been able to get through on that one. Looks like I have some packaging to do... ugh. This is not going to go over well with my 7 year old. His beloved and his red caboose are going to be gone for 6-8 weeks. Very frustrating that the company wasn't more vigilant on this. Caroline

Guest guest
I know... they " say " nobody has reported being harmed... but of course if someone claims they have been harmed, they'll have hard time winning against company lawyers. My kids have never been " chewers " , but I can't promise that they have washed their hands really, REALLY well before eating every time they have played with these toys. I find it really discouraging that this recall goes back to toys sold 2 years ago... which means they were made even before that. Do they just not even check this stuff? I would have thought there would be some sort of periodic quality inspection. Of course, I'm one who opens bathroom doors with tissues and is completely paranoid about food and safety (and that was BEFORE I found out about ). You ought to see me now. Do I need to buy a lead test kit and test all of my kids' toys? Guess I should have. Guest guest
You know, I hate to say this but this is what happens when we outsource to countries that have different regulations. We can never truly be sure of what we are getting. I say this with great discomfort as I used to be one that wouldn't even shop at Wal Mart because of their policies and practices. I do now as I've come to realize that I can't choose my politics on a case by case basis and be hypocritical. I can't choose to buy something that's made in the US over something that's not when dh (and I used to) work in the entertainment industry making the commercials that sell these products and pay us money. That and the fact that it's just too cost prohibitive to buy US for everything - and some things aren't even made in the US, no matter how hard you look. When a US pair of Nikes cost $130 and a non-US pair costs $65, well, I'm not independently wealthy and I had to finally face that fact! And I know it's a catch 22 as US companies can't compete with foreign companies that can pay their employees less than what a US employee is willing to accept. I'm totally in one of those areas where I'm completely caught between two opposing sides because I would love to do one thing but circumstances prohibit full compliance. All I know is that now I have to go through all of our stuff and figure out which ones are part of the recall...
