Guest guest
Hi Cheryl and Welcome, If you check the message archives i have posted regarding Hypo thyroid among other things several times. The first message in archive (going backward) that i found is 4540, there were several responses in that thread so i would recommend reading as many of them as you can. My work load is heavy right now, but if you dont get any addiitonal input from other members, send me an email offline from the board and i will try to respond based on my own experience. I dont take Synthroid or any other thyroid med anymore as of this Jauanry and feel 10X better than when i did. Do not dispare as healthy eating is not only NOT boring it can acutally be quite yummy if you are willing to tkae the time to learn and adjust your perspoective Luck and love, Sylvia > > Greetings HAWK Members, > > My name is Cheryl, I'm 46 years young, but feel MUCH older! > > I must mention the fact that I had a Stroke at the age of 5 > years old (Yes, 5 years old!) paralyzing my entire left side. > Through therapy and several operations to my left ankle I have > regained all but the dexterity in my left hand & still have a slight > limp. Guest guest
(and Cheryl) Not to be contradictory but, I would consider getting off the meds and adopting healthier and nmore natural alternatives to they meds! I toook thryoid med's for over 3 1/2 years and after talking with many other friends who had hypo thryoid they all concurred that once you start taking it, you almost have to stay on it, and periodically have to have your dosage upped (i went from 25's to 50's then to 75's before i quit and did the master cleanse). If you still have your thyroid, you can do this. Do some research talk to other on this board (and the other if you belong to it) because the natural approach is not only better for your thyroid, it is better for your entire body! remember your liver has to deal with the med's you take. Guest guest
Sorry but i didnt finish my thought here.... > I took thryoid med's for over 3 1/2 years and after talking with > many other friends who had hypo thryoid they all concurred that once you start taking it, you almost have to stay on it, and periodically have to have your dosage upped (i went from 25's to 50's then to 75's before i quit and did the master cleanse)... That is unless you are willing to commit yourself to alternatives and Stick to them! I had the same misconceptions and bought into the same lie that the pharmies and medicos have pushed on us all of our lives.
Guest guest
People with Down Syndrome suffer from thyroid problems and was no exception. She was put on ½ a 75 mcg of Synthroid last year and between the Specific Carb Diet and an increase in zinc, her thyroid panel is with in normal range, though her TSH was a tiny bit above 2, so I chose to allow her to naturally grow out of the dose rather than rock the boat and cut it cold turkey. It is possible to change those numbers and sometimes to get off the meds. Good luck to you! Carol in IL · ..
Guest guest
Hi Sylvia, Congrats on getting off thyroid meds :-) I'm sure you are right - for people who have some thyroid left. Unfortunately, mine self-destructed over 10 years ago, and I have been on 1 mg of Levythyroxine all that time, until a couple of months ago, when I actually went down to .75 mg. Whilst I would agree that getting off thyroid meds would be something that Cheryl could/should(?) strive for, perhaps it might be better to get her feeling a bit better than she does now, before chucking the meds entirely and probably feeling even worse. I'm thinking she should take baby steps, but maybe I am wrong..... Cheers, and the K9's ----- >Not to be contradictory but, I would consider getting off the meds and adopting healthier and nmore natural alternatives to they meds! Guest guest
Don posted this which I saved. Pam The Total Tonic or Super Tonic with Black Walnut will help. Lot of natural Iodine in the Black Walnut.. Also Irish Moss, Parsley, Dandelion root, and Alfalfa make a good combination mixed with bladderwrack. Another really good thing for her to do is to go on a total juice fast with fresh organic vegetable juices and fruit juices. This will help cleanse her liver, bowels, kidneys and promote healing throughout her body. A hot fomentation of 1 part lobelia and 3 parts mullein and placed over the thyroid (cover with plastic) six nights a week and take one day off and then back on for 6 nights a week and a day off , etc, etc, etc for as long as necessary. Hope this helps along with Suzi's ideas. Peace, love and light, Don Quai
Guest guest
Fluoride:The Thyroid, Alzheimers and CFS --------------------------------------------------------------------- How toxins affect the thyroid gland Toxins from the environs may alter the thyroid function. Gaitan from Univ Mississipi found that drinking water contaminated with petrochemicals results in blocked activity of thyroid hormones. ( Ref Jounal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism 1983 Vol. 56) Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) can alter thyroxine levels and result in symptoms of thyroid disorders (Science, vol.267) It is now understood that the environment, diet and nutrition influence thyroid function in a number of ways and may relate to thyroid disorders of non-specific origin (Annual Review of Nutrition -1995 Vol 15) Another line of evidence indicating that fluoride is an 'endocrine disrupter' stems from the number of studies that indicate the fluoride may inhibit the functioning of the thyroid gland. s Schuld, president of a group called Parents of Fluoride Poisoned Children, has prepared an excellent summary of the evidence that points in this direction To put the matter as simply as I can, his group has been able to show that areas of " endemic fluorosis " are also areas designated as being endemic with iodine deficiency disorders (IDD). Thyroid hormones are absolutely essential for normal growth and development. Hyperthyroidism means that the thyroid gland is producing too much of the thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. These two hormones have 3 and 4 iodine atoms respectively. Schuld's group has also shown that there is a remarkable similarity between the symptoms listed for hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland) and those reported for fluoride poisoning. Putting these two conditions together, it appears that fluoride decreases the production of thyroid hormones. For a normal person if you are exposed to too much fluoride it could result in reducing thyroid hormone production below normal and necessary levels (i.e., hypothyroidism). It is not clear just how fluoride reducesthyroid hormone production. The theory is that since Flouride, fluorine, and chlorine are " identical " to the molecular structure of iodine, the thyroid detects it as such. Alternatively, fluoride inhibits the " enzymes " inside the gland which assemble the hormones from its chemical precursor, the amino acid 'tyrosine'. ======================================= Pam
Guest guest
Hi , I have only been taking the meds since August 30th, I felt better the 1st two weeks, but soon felt no better then the day I walked into the doctor’s office. I am going to have my TSH lab work drawn on Monday. I have read on other groups that it would be best if he tested for Free T 3 & Free T 4, but those are not included! I go back to see the doctor for a follow up the 25th. I do take my meds 1st thing in the morning. That was on the Patient Prescription Info sheet, along w/ many other warnings & precautions. My great aunt (favorite) had her thyroid removed back in the 50s or 60s and lived a long, productive, energetic life. She had the energy to care for my great great grandmother who was in a wheel chair from Diabetes AND my uncle (a coal miner) who was dying from lung disease. Unfortunately she later died of ovarian cancer. ~Cheryl~

There are all very high in organic minerals and iodine. Also I believe that Pam reposted one of my earlier posts that mentioned using lobelia and mullein fomentations over your thyroid. This will help it tremendously. Baby steps, gotta start with baby steps and then before you are really aware of it you are in much better health and you will, hopefully, continue on to excellent health free from the allopathic medicinals and doctors. You are your own best doctor afterall. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man.
