Guest guest
I am the father of a three year old boy who has just been diagnosed with PDD-NOS. My wife and I have been very discouraged by our local pediatrician, psychologist and psychiatrist. I am thankful to learn that there are people who believe in medically treating autism. My son has been one the GFCF diet for about two weeks and we have already seen improvement. I have contacted Dr. Goldberg's office and they are sending me a packet of information. I find that the information makes a great deal of sense. However, I have also read some about the DAN protocols, nutritional supplements, toxic mercury levels and chelation. Could someone explain how these approaches conflict with thinking. Thanks,
Guest guest
Stay away from DAN...nice meaning people, but its a bunch of crap! Don't do anything but real medicine. People you will find are going to play on your emotions. They will tell you if you use chelation therapy, or megavitmins they will cure your son. Don't you believe it! Go with Dr Goldberg, he will never do any harm to a child....remember this is a medical condition, you treat it with medicine. If you want to take all those vitamins yourself go ahead, but don't give them to your son! Remember, your boy is still just a baby, stay away from DAN. Alot of us have been down that road before we found Dr G, and we could tell you some whoppers. But just stick with with Dr G, and your boy will be in good hands! > > I am the father of a three year old boy who has just been diagnosed > with PDD-NOS. Guest guest
No, that theory was around years ago when my son was 8yrs old. I was doing those when we first went to see Dr G, he was horrified! Don't ever do megadoses of vitamins on a child. They have a tiny liver, and kidneys and that megadose turns toxic, and it is very dangerous. Your 4yr old is really still just a baby. Just do regular kids vitamins, one a day that should be enough. Please stop giving those shots to your child. If you can't get to dr g, find a very compassionate pediatrician, you may have to do alot of searching, but call the teaching hospital in your area. Please don't use that DAN approach with your child. Do real medicine with a real doctor (MD) that is the best way to help your child. > > > > I am the father of a three year old boy who has just been diagnosed > > with PDD-NOS. Guest guest
Hi , Yes, the approach makes a lot of sense. Our kids were born with a genetic predisposition for their immune systems to more easily break down. A sick kid can't develop normally-- their brain development is put on hold while their body tries to heal, and the blood flow to their brain is effected too by a defense mechanism of the body to keep from feeding oxygen to viruses in the brain. The reason that is safer and a more logical approach is because goes to the root of the problem, a disfunctional immune system. DAN treats the symptoms. A kid has metals (or even if they don't), then you chelate. Low in a B vitamin? Megadose them. With , even if a child has higher amounts of metals in their system, Dr. Goldberg does not displace them through chelation. The body couldn't process them correctly in the first place, so they were stored someplace in the body. If you release them again (through chelation) into a body that isn't healed and still can't process the metals correctly then you really aren't solving any problems. You are in fact risking that the body will stash the metals someplace worse this time. Our kids (I think I have this right) are low in vitamins because of their inability to absorb them. Megadosing them only gives them more of the vitamin that they can't absorb. Once the immune system is treated and the body gets stronger and starts to heal, it will process the metals when it is ready. It will naturally begin absorbing the nutrients that it was unable to before. Though some people may have success with treating their children's symptoms, it makes more sense to me to go to the source of the problem and treat it there. That is what Dr. Goldberg is doing. Best of luck to you and your son. Tell your wife not to be discouraged. She knows what her child is capable of. Those doctors don't know what they are talking about. SHE is the expert on your son, not them. Take heart. You'll be in good hands with Dr. Goldberg. Sincerely, April I Just Found ! > I am the father of a three year old boy who has just been diagnosed > with PDD-NOS. Guest guest
April, Thanks for the detailed email. How long have you been with Dr. Goldberg and how often do you have to go to his clinic.
