I'm new to the group. I'm Hypo in addition to being wheelchair bound for 8 yrs due to MS. So, getting to doctor appointments is not too easy. I have a good Internal MD in Lubbock, but I just don't think he digs quite deep enough. I'll probably try to get in with someone else as soon as it warms up some. I am on Levothroid, but can't tell much difference except my B/P is up from the 80-90/60 range to 110-120/70 range. Temp still runs low. Feel very weak most of the time. I look for that to change when I get in with the new doctor! I chose this thread to jump in on because I saw Dr Oz on Oprah demonstrating a Netie Pot. The woman who demonstrated had suffered from sinusitis for a while, and after 2 weeks, she was a believer! It has to be warm salted water. I thought it would be like drowning, but

she said it was SO easy! Anyway...for what it is worth! Good to be here! Marcie Jul wrote: I didn't know what a neti pot was either. Both sound icky to me. :)On Jan 20, 2008 5:40 PM, Jan <texasthyroid> wrote:>>> She uses it to wash out her sinuses instead of a neti pot. Personally, I> would never

That is good to know! Thanks! I will call and see if I can get in. I'm hoping for a day with better weather than today. Typical winter West Texas weather...windy and cold! Dr. recommended this one to me.

After watching the video, though, I'm not sure I could handle it. :-)

Using a saline rinse/gel seems to be helping mine.

Take care,

Yes, you are indeed lucky to be there. Many of us see him for hormone

issues, especially thyroid. I do, but I'm in Dallas. He would be my PCP

for sure if I lived there!

Yes, we look with envy at folks who live in Lubbock. Who would've thunk it? I now only see him about once a year, but I make a point of getting his opinion on the treatment of all of my health problems. He just knows more than any other doc I have seen. rgrprop wrote: Yes, you are indeed lucky to be there. Many of us see him for hormone issues, especially thyroid. I do, but I'm in Dallas. I totally agree. My dear hubby saw

him on Thursday for the first time. I just don’t trust my PCP here

in the Dallas/Ft

Worth area to get to the bottom of things. The reality is that I don’t

think most doctors are trained any more to get to the bottoms of things.

They just treat the symptoms.

My husband is having cholesterol issues,

high blood pressure, elevated liver functions, etc. He has the abnormal

liver functions off and on for several years. He has not been on any

cholesterol lowering drugs to have caused the abnormal liver functions. I

had my husband do his basal temps. He never made it over 96.8 for over a

week. We’ll see what the labs say.

I have to say that I am (pleasantly) shocked! I have lived 15 miles SE of Lubbock my entire life (46 Yrs.) I have never heard anyone say that they envy people who live here! I have gone to Reno, NV, Austin, TX, Fredricksburg, TX, Odessa, TX, and Tyler, TX for alternative treatments but have never found much about Lubbock to be excited about! Of course, those were for MS treatments. (Which, by the way, there are none.) The doctor in Fredricksburg did catch on to the thyroid issue. I am supposed to get a call tomorrow to find out if I can get an appointment. I have Aetna Ins as primary, Medicare as secondary. They don't accept Medicare at all, so the girl that answered the phone was having to ask if they can take me as a patient. If not, I'll be open to

suggestions. Marcie "K. Hanson, CTR" wrote: I totally agree. My dear hubby saw him on Thursday for the first time. I just don’t trust my PCP here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area to get to the bottom of things. The reality is that I don’t think most doctors are

Kim, it's great your DH is getting this looked at by Dr. R. I'm

betting his tests will show readings like my DH - low in iron values,

DHEA, male hormones, Vit B12, and his TSH will probably be high (per

the new range even) and T3/T4+T3 ratios will be low, like 19%. My DH

went out there last week and was looking really good in his labs -

pretty well optimized in just over a year. I'll post labs and

evaluation here pretty soon.

Our PCP didn't get to the bottom of things either. We use her for the

colds, flu, infections, referrals for broken bones, etc. She's

responsive and has a very personal service, so we wouldn't look

elsewhere in Dallas. At least she likes what she sees Dr. R. has done

so she defers to him now.

I have a friend in New York with Hashi and MS. She takes Cytomel with a small amount of Unithroid. It seems that she needs much more T3 than T4 because of the MS. (She tried Armour plus Cytomel, but found that she was allergic to pork.) I see on my Aetna open PPO plan for my $15 copay. He is considered a PCP, not a specialist. So, if you do not have an open plan, you would have to make him your PCP to see him in network. Depending on how difficult that 15 mile drive is for you, that may not be too onerous. But I note that your internist is in Lubbock. Marcie wrote: That is good to know! Thanks! I will call and see if I can get in. I'm hoping for a day with better weather than today.
