seizure medicine suggestions?

Dear all,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a seizure medicine that doesn't cause

extreme drowsiness? My daughter recently started Depakote and she's

been falling asleep at the drop of a hat throughout the day - which of

course won't be good once school resumes after the holidays.

Thanks for any suggestions,

,

How long has Eva been on the Depakote? My son Sam was pretty sleepy when we

first added it to his Tegretol, but got over that after a few weeks. He has

never had any side effects from the Tegretol (he has been on that since age

1).

Best wishes,

Christie, mom to Sam (19 yrs old, BPP)

My son takes Triliptol and only had brief drowsiness, then normal after an

hour.

We just took our 4 year old off 11mg 2x/day of keppra which was not helping her

weekly seizure and kept the trileptal and added Zonnegran. We'll see how it

works.

Was it 11ml or mg? We just started Keppra mixed 100mg/ml she is on 1 1/2 ml AM

and 2 PM. I read that vit b 6 I think is what helps with the behavior problems.

We have only seem improvement in no seizures and better focus and expressive

language. I planned on asking Neuro about vit B if we had problems? We started

Keppra due to maxed out on Trileptal and now weaning it.Diane

Yes, I meant 11ml 2x/day and during the weaning process there was no change in

frequency which led us to believe it really wasn't doing much for her. Trileptal

she is on 7ml twice a day with 50 mg of Zonnegran twice. She was also doing B6-

I think her behavior has improved a little- less irritable and aggressive, I

think.

My son is on lamictal right now. We don't have total seizure control but it has

helped. He isn't sleepy or drowsy or spacey, but he does have trouble eating

now. I have no idea if this is related to the medication or not - always hard

to figure out. But Lamictal does seem very benign in terms of visible side

effects. I have heard, however, that it is often paired with another drug,

although we haven't explored that yet.
