Guest guest
Shari, I just want to say that our kids develop in spurts so it never hurts to prepare for issues. Sorry no advice on these programs but I know waiting for speech is difficult esp the kids fustration level. We did some sign time videos and youtube has several videos similar like that reading baby. Can I ask what kind PMG? Left sided damage usually causes more problems. Diane anyone use speech videos Hello, My son is 18 months and kind of has 2 words (really just one, Dad and sometimes again Momma) and a few sounds. We have a speech therapist but I've heard different things about videos to use as well. Has anyone tried Baby BumbleBee http://www.babybumblebee.com/store/Level_1set.htm or teach2talk http://www.teach2talk.com/teach2talk-basic-language-set.html He said Momma and babba in Feb and then lost them until saying Dad/did/d sounds a few months ago. Thanks, Shari
Guest guest
Diane, Does your child have PMG on only one side of the brain? My grandson has it on his Right side of the brain, His left brain is totally normal. He is now 14 months old, babbles only, cant sit up yet, but has just started commando crawling around the floor with his right arm, his left one we just make sure is not pinned underneath him. We live in Australia and there are no support groups here. Are you people using sign language with your kids? That has not been mentioned to us here. Guest guest
Yes Nisha has right sided PMG but did have a language delay too. I have found great help with understanding her condition when her physiatrist told me it is called left hemiplegia cerebral palsy from PMG. Their is a great list serve thru hemi.org from chasa that many Ausies also are on that may be a resource to here all about hemis issues and helpful suggestions. Guest guest
My 10 month old has left side Pmg caused by cmv. He's also partially deaf (profound loss in the left ear, mild to moderate loss in the right). One of our first speech therapists was an auditory something or other specialist and she told me to sing, sing, sing and sing some more to him. So I always have and he babbles like crazy. Says mama and dada. I have no idea if the singing is the reason for him doing so well verbally or not, but I like to believe it is. “I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma.†— Eartha Kitt > Yes Nisha has right sided PMG but did have a language delay too. Guest guest
He has Bilateral Perisylvian PMG. Overall, he's doing amazing. In the last month has just started pushing himself to a sit and his combat crawling, which he's been doing for the last 4-5 months, is finally somewhat evolving into more tummy off the floor. His lungs are a real issue as he has Pulmonary Hypertension, which is what often times puts him in the hospital, quite often when he gets sick. We've had an amazing healthy summer, with no hospital overnights since April, which I believe is why he's progressing so well. I really appreciate how well he's doing. I know it can be so much worse and we are hoping things continue to go forward with him. As you mentioned, it's just really frustrating for both of us when I can't understand him. Of course at 18 months even many typical kids don't really have a lot of language but I can feel he would be ready to talk if only his brain would coordinate to help him. And I know it will only get worse the older he gets if I can't help him communicate more clearly. We keep up with the signs, including a couple of DVD's I occasionally have him watch. I think he's finally just beginning to do " more " but it's not consistent. I'm going to try singing more like Kim suggested. And I think I'll try one of the sets I listed as well. Who knows, I'm up for trying anything. Thanks to all who responded! > > Shari, I just want to say that our kids develop in spurts so it never hurts to prepare for issues.
