Guest guest
For the record " tootsie " said that she didn't have any health problems, but that she hoped the surgery would stop her from developing them. So I guess a family history of diabetes or obesity could be a reasonable concern for having the surgery with so little to lose. I guess after a lifetime of flippancy, misunderstanding and frankly abuse from people who have never lived with obesity I have very little tolerence for people like tootsie. I can't help but feel resentful of those who complain about not being able to shove 5kg when I have 65 to lose! Then again there are probably those you on the board who need to lose double that, so I won't carry on. ;-) Nevertheless you make some fair points Andi and I appreciate the thoughtfulness with which they were posted. Guest guest
Hey Christy (and all), Don't panic, because I totally understand where you were coming from... and I think that you did very well to remain nice in the waiting room if this so called woman said what she said to you guys!! My mouth wouldn't have clammed shut so hard on my tongue and she would have heard some very interesting things out of my mouth, maybe not so much expletives, but I would have had to have made some form of a remark.... that stuff just hurts people, and some people don't and won't get it!! I was more concerned then about what followed with the mentioning of the surgeons etc and their " ethics " regarding the surgery.... a few names were thrown in the ring (as I said just initials, but we all know who we are referring to) and alot of sly things were said about a few different surgeons, and their " morals " as such.... that was more about what I was worried about, especially when very highly regarded obesity surgeons, who are doing such good for the obese population are sort of named and shamed as such.... there were a few remarks about money and such throughout the various posts.... let me assure you, as a health professional that works side by side with these surgeons everyday, that Upper GI surgeons do not make near as much money as what people think, our surgery may cost us a bit out of our pockets, but if these people were in it for money then I can assure you that they would choose a different surgical option than to be a gastro surgeon. Please don't be offended by what I wrote, and it most definately wasn't directed at you personally, but was directed to the group as a whole!!...... I just want people to remember that everyone reads these posts and that we need to be mindful of how we word/write some of the things that we talk about here, it is a totally open forum, but all of the surgeons throughout Sydney/NSW have helped one or more of us out with our " disease " as such and are our lifesavers, and none of like to hear bad about them (it actually surprisingly hurts our feelings), not to mention that there are people on the board who come here for advice and haven't yet been banded and I would hate for them to get the wrong impression of the people that have basically saved our lives.... I hope that my post makes a little more sense now, I wasn't so much trying to vindicate " tootsie's " behaviour, because she sounds like a right cow, but more try to downsize the comments on the surgeons.... I just tried to word it as best as I could...
