Guest guest
Has anyone ever taken their child off of all of the ssri's and just left tennex in place with good results? I have a hyper child, with difficulty focusing. He's been on several different ssri's for years now, and I wonder if I wean him off will he be a more alert child? appreciate any input you can provide. thanks --------------------------------- Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with . Guest guest
You know I have wondered alot lately about this myself. Which SSRIs have you been on, and which one are you on now? Have you done a neurospect and when? On kind of a related note....my son had a neurospect in Jan....showed increased blood flow to the frontal lobes. Dr G started him on Wellbutrin along with the Prozac he was already on....we have seen amazing things...better focus and attention, increased awareness of the world (best way I can explain it), better expressive language. I wonder if/how long he would be on both....I do not understand how they work together, does anyone know? > > Has anyone ever taken their child off of all of the ssri's and just left tennex in place with good results? Guest guest
Wellbutrin or Bupropion works on three neurotransmitters - norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine by mildly inhibiting the reuptake of these, whereas SSRI's work on Serotonin only. Wellbutrin has the same active ingredient as Zyban, a drug used as an aid to smoking cessation treatment. Effexor, though a different composition also targets these three neurotransmitters. We have used an SSRI plus wellbutrin, and then after a year, shifted to a combination of an SSRI plus effexor. Blood perfusion to the frontal lobes was increased as shown in our son's neurospect of 01/2002. We have now reduced the Effexor dose to 1/4 of the full dose and look to eliminate it, as it appears to have worked through its usefulness. We have introduced Tenex at low doses which assists blood flow evening (reduces pressure slightly). It has taken a while to fine tune, but now, a combination of Paxil (Seroxat), lower dose effexor and tenex seems to work. Wellbutrin is always there as a choice should it be needed. Last year, the second neurospect we had done showed " restoration of blood flow to the left temporal lobe " while there was still some elevation in the frontal lobes. Glad you are seeing good results with this choice. Dr G will start to change or reduce these meds as is necessary - depending on progress. It is a bit complicated I know...but it does work! Best Re: removing ssri's ...just leaving tennex for hyper child (pretty low verbal ability) You know I have wondered alot lately about this myself. Guest guest
Wow! Thanks everyone for the input....I have been questioning the effectiveness of Effexor, to me he looks to zoned, but worry about his hyperness at reducing. Did your son have migranes when you eliminated the Effexor? I forgot about Paxil, I thought they took it off the market. cat meljackmom <meljackmom@...> wrote: Thanks ....very helpful. > > Wellbutrin or Bupropion works on three neurotransmitters - norepinephrine, > serotonin and dopamine by mildly inhibiting the reuptake of these, whereas > SSRI's work on Serotonin only. Guest guest
just a thought for you: about the SSRI's has your son tried Prozac? this is what my son is on and it is working really well with no side effects. Good luck. Bekki catherine quinn <quinn.cat1968@...> wrote: Wow! Guest guest
No---but still not elimated yet.... that's why we bring the dose down slowly Re: removing ssri's ...just leaving tennex for hyper child > (pretty low verbal ability) > > You know I have wondered alot lately about this myself.
