Guest guest
Kristie, No worries... I sometimes check in and out of the chats, too... Good for you on getting the paperwork in! It's a lot to do! I'm not sure quite what the next step is as far as setting the appointment... you might want to call the office just to make sure they received the packet and at that point you could ask what happens next. I think I remember hearing that after the information arrives, someone has to enter a lot of it into a computer, so that takes some time... Since you are within driving distance, I would definitely ask about getting on a list for cancellations (I'm not sure if there is one or not). My main suggestion for the appointment is to ask beforehand if you can tape it. Dr. Goldberg has always been very generous in letting us tape our appointments, phone consults, etc. I remember after our first appointment in Dr. Goldberg's office, I called my husband and told him I felt as if I had just speed read an encyclopedia about my son. It is so hard to take it all in when you are in the appointment... you've got to keep an eye on your child and listen and talk and take notes and try to think of questions at the same time. Since you're close, it might be helpful if someone (hi grandma!) could go and just be with your son while you talk to Dr. Goldberg (give him a snack, pull out a new toy, read to him, whatever). Dr. Goldberg usually uses his waiting room for new patient appointments (I think he saves the new patients a big window of time so there won't be other patients coming and going). I remember listening to the tape later and saying " I don't even remember him saying that. " I remember being SO impressed with how thoroughly Dr. Goldberg had reviewed my son's medical history. It was LONG, and Dr. Goldberg had these little yellow post-it notes sticking out of his copy EVERYWHERE... then he typed more into his laptop as we talked. He really does his homework. We got the blood work done before we went to the appointment and it was very helpful to have the results that first day. I think since our son hadn't actually seen Dr. G yet that maybe our local pediatrician ordered all of the labs and we did them in Indiana before we went. We also did the NeuroSPECT scan before the first appointment so we had those results available to discuss. I can't think of anything else right now... If I do I'll pass it along... my 18 month old daughter just figured out how to climb up on the dining room table so I've gotta run!
