Guest guest
Hi- We started my son Bobby on Paxil last Thursday and starting this Friday he is extrememely lethargic, and spacey. His eyes have dark circles under them and he is quite warm- maybe a fever?, and shivers (we have been giving him Tylenol) Has anyone experienced this before. We have started other meds with him and usually the only change is that he's more tired than normal. We haven't given him the dose of Paxil today as we don't know if it's an allergic reaction or if this is just a 'die- off', we haven't really experienced one of them yet. One other thing of note is that Bobby has no language as of yet, so we can only express the symptoms we can see. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
My son has been doing well on Paxil for many years now. However, he always has had a period of lethargy followed by a little bit of hyperness a few hours after taking a dose of Paxil. This was lessened with the controlled release form but still pretty regular. A few other parents who also saw this in their kids recommended giving it at night and that seemed to keep it from disrupting the time he needed to focus while still keeping the benefits. The dark circles and possible fever you mentioned though does sound more like an allergy or illness. A person wouldn't have a " die off " reaction to Paxil so I'd look at other possible causes. If you aren't already washing the dye off of Paxil, be sure to do that, since many kids react to the dye. Otherwise, look at whatever foods he's eating, other meds that may contribute to " die-off " reactions (antifungals, antivirals or antibiotics) and possibly to any spraying or chemicals in the area where you live or he goes to school. Guest guest
You really should call Dr. G. He may need a different ssri. Guest guest
Not sure if the symptoms could be attributed to Paxil or not, but I would have your ped. check him over to look for illnesses. He may very well be sick with a virus or infection. @...: jennkleiber@...: Sun, 6 Jan 2008 14:50:08 +0000Subject: Paxil Hi- We started my son Bobby on Paxil last Thursday and starting this Friday he is extrememely lethargic, and spacey. Guest guest
We just had a nasty cold/flu here that cause high temps in my oldest and youngest sons. Noah never runs fevers, but he did get some congestion. Hope he feels better. Guest guest
Yes, when Noah and first started on it and again when we adjust the dosage. It takes about 10 days to adjust and Noah takes about 14. Guest guest
we went back to Zolof. The dosage was critical but once we found the correct dosage everything evened out. What was most telling was the diet. If we had diet issues, Dyes, dairy because of some event, (holiday, party, ETC...) all bets were off. The SSRI's went goofy, The Viral tiers climbed. The emotional outbursts came more frequently regardless of the dosage or med schedule. Slam the diet and and you can start to trust the blood tests and start to judge the effectiveness of the meds. Don't assume that if you are dairy, dye, minimal gluten that you are on the diet correctly. I lost two months over pineapple amazing regession and everything else ran off the scale. It amazes me but if your kid isn't reacting to anything the meds work correctly. If his system is off due to diet or any outside virus or illness issue the meds do nothing. The immunovir seems to help negate the effects of both illnesses and/or diet issues. Guest guest
Do you know why does dr. Goldberg began the SSRI´s with Paxil? my daughter is 5 years and is using now 5mg. I was thinking that she would use a very little dose, but if a i am not wrong and asult would use 10mg as a normal dose, isn´t it? Thanks VAnessa
Guest guest
My son was getting 10 mg at 10 years old and 90 lbs and it made him groggy so we went to Zolof. Guest guest
He doesn't always begin with Paxil. He started my son off with Zoloft, but it made him so hyper, we switched to Paxil. It really works for him. My kids, ages 10 and 8, take (1) 10mg tablet. We started with 1/2 tab and worked our way up. Guest guest
It's amazing to me how different these types of drugs react in different people. My oldest son is 10 and weighs about 74 pounds, yet Paxil doesn't make him sleepy at all. That's why it's so important to document changes in your children in regards to these meds.
