I agree Chip, I complain about being one of the 15% of the population who has to pay for prescription fees, but really, £7-40 isn't much, especially when the doctors conveniently ignore the 'one month supply' rule and my prescription is for 2 seretide inhalers at a time, so that's £3-70 a month. People here complain about waiting times, but it depends where you are. I'm lucky - I got a physio appointment the day after I phoned up, a musculoskeletal rheumatologist appointment a month after I phoned (appointment is in mid April, so quite worried about what they're going to tell me - I'm being referred because of frequent joint problems, that don't heal up, but I'm only 26, and being permanently exhausted), my local health care trust are moving services away from the main hospital to smaller, local ones which don't have parking

charges, because I'm on the edge of two healthcare authorities who have finally realised that by teaming up they can pool resources and become a lot more efficient. My nanna has recently been in hospital (admitted just before Christmas, finally released at teh end of Feb, back in 2 days later for another week or so), and the only cost to my family was the petrol there and back, parking, and coffee in the café when they took her out to relieve the boredomJennTha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Hi Ann, Yep I realised thing might be different in the USA and other parts of the world as soon as I had pressed `send' button!

So sorry for my mistake, I forgot this site reaches people around the world, not just the UK.

To be honest, we in the UK moan about our National Health Service but in truth we are the lucky ones it seems.

Chip in the US things are a bit different and some companies CAN and DO require a prescription for some durable medical equipment-nebs fall into this because they are used to administer medication. It has to do with the insurances they accept...not whether you have it or not....because certain insurances (such as Medicare) require different policies/procedures. At work I have different rules to follow for a medicare patient vs a private pay insurance (this doesnt mean they get better or worse care- the rule differences have to do with appointments, obtaining medications and charting). Some companies may choose to follow the stricter rules to make it less confusing, and it is perfectly ok to do that.
