Happy Christmas everyone!Generally, the only shops here that stay open are those run by those who don't celebrate Christmas, and other than restaurants, the only people working really are those in essential jobs, such as doctors and nurses in hospital (brought home more to me this year as we went to visit my nanna in hospital this morning), emergency services, power station workers etc. In the UK (certainly in the places I've lived, anyway) there is no issue with those from other religions and Christmas - they either just accept the fact they are in a county where we celebrate Christmas, or embrace it and celebrate Christmas as well as their own celebrations. Can come in handy too - my mum is a nurse, and

doesn't have to work as she doesn't work in a hospital now, but used to. The one she worked at was in Leeds, which has one of the biggest Jewish communities in the UK, so all the Jewish nurses volunteered for Christmas day, as long as they had Hannukah off, and it worked well.Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. Merry Christmas! Also remember us store clerks who have to work today because people don't have enough sense to buy enough cigarettes on the 24th to last them until the 26th. I will work harder today than any other day of the year! All the other stores will be closed so my convenience store will be packed all day long, yet we will have no more people working than we do any other day (?) even though they know it is the busiest day of the year. But the most amazing thing about working in a

store on

Christmas, is how incredibly MEAN AND NASTY everybody is!!!You would not believe how we will be verbally abused and cussed out all day. Here we are forced to give up our most important day to be with our families in order to remain employed just so idiots can buy stuff they should have bought yesterday...and then we spend the whole day being yelled at by grumpy people! If you can't tell, I am not looking forward to going to work today. When I get treated like a piece of you-know-what on the bottom of someone's shoe, I'm going to try to respond by saying "Merry Christmas to you!" Joy to the world!" "Peace on Earth!" "Good will toward men!" Don't know if I can keep the sarcasm out of my voice.Sheri
