For me Serious meanscan not breath even after taking 60 mg of Prednisone for 5 days or wake up and can not talkThis last Oct, I couldn't talk, the ER doc annoyed me by saying "I can not believe you came in under your own steam." To bad I could say to him that I was focusing on my walking at the time. We have a bad history of him not believing how I am feeling so he is still uppity about it though.We have a Wellness program with our insurance. Thankfully now we don't have to have a $500.00 ded for each person for medicine this year but with 3 people on asthma medicines it still adds up. G/WI

Today I asked a nurse (a free phone service from my health insurance company) how to tell if someone is in respiratory distress. She said that difficulty breathing puts symptoms in that category.

When you can contact your doctor, be sure to mention the back pain.I hope someone here with more experience than I have can advise you further.Judy K
