SSRIs & bladder retention

Hi Everyone,

A week or so ago, I recall reading a message or two about bladder problems

when starting or upping SSRIs. This had been a common issue with my son but

seemed to get better a few weeks into the med or new dose. Unfortunately,

with the last increase, he appears to have now lost almost all sensation in his

bladder and isn't going to the bathroom unless reminded to do so. He

developed a bladder infection so the pediatrician had him go through some

testing

and we plan to see a urologist next week. The testing showed that he has no

renal problems except that his bladder is mis-shapen (something they see in

extreme cases of retention) and he is unable to fully empty his bladder. From

reading online, I've found that this is a side effect of all SSRIs. I also

found e-mails from a few people that said the problem went away a week or so

after discontinuing the drug or switching to another SSRI. Have any of your

children had this problem?
