Guest guest
I should probably add that my rings are white gold with diamonds, and that I have had this set for about 1.5 years. Kristy OT: Parent Sensitivites Hi, I hope you don't mind my asking...my 5 y.o. son is a patient of Dr. G. In the last year or so, I have developed sensitivities to - I think - avobenzene and titanium dioxide, so I don't use products with those ingredients and I'm fine. In the last 6 weeks or so, I have developed an itchy-burning eczema-like rash under my wedding bands! It coincides with moving to a new home, and doing more housework (we had a housecleaner at the other house), and also using some new soap products. The cleaning products are, for the most part, Method brand. I have not been able to narrow down which one(s), and also I feel like maybe it's related to a food sensitivity as much as contact with a product. Any ideas or suggestions? I miss my wedding rings ;-) Kristy
Guest guest
Have your fingers been swollen lately? I get these red rashes under my rings when my fingers are swollen because the skin can't breath under the rings. If your rings are tight right now, that might be what's happening. Maybe all the cleaning/chemicals in the new house has made your fingers a little swollen? Just a thought. Other than that, I have no other ideas. Guest guest
Cheryl, Not all of my fingers are swollen, but my ring finger where I wear the rings seems bigger than usual. Not swollen, but the bands do seem tighter on that finger. Weird. Thanks for your reply. I will try to figure out why (maybe has to do with not much exercise since moving during Thanksgiving and the usual holiday craziness). Guest guest
Kristy, I too have a white gold wedding set and I've developed a scaly itchy rash under my rings the past few winters- which I've attributed to the dry air/skin in the winter months. I've had my rings for 11 years now but this year the rash is even worse. I've noticed that if I use a lot of baby wipes (and I even use the sensitive ones) to clean the boys and/or wash my hands a lot it gets worse in the winter. If I keep the rings off for a few days and use a lot of lotion (I use baby lotion or Aveeno) it clears up. I did a little experiment this past month... If I wear only the engagement ring my finger is fine. But when I wear the wedding band, too, my finger flares up after a few hours. My wedding ring kind of criss-crosses under the engagement ring and on the bottom side where it crosses under the high setting there are two little grooves. I think I've got some sort of cleaning agent or other allergens trapped in those grooves. I've been meaning to " google " a home remedy for jewelry cleaning that would be non-chemical since I have extremely sensitive skin... but I haven't taken the time for it. I think I will now! - in Mobile, AL __________________________ Reality lies beyond the horizon... Guest guest
I have found that if I don't make sure to rinse underneath my rings when I was my hands that I have issues no matter what type of soap I use. So each time I wash my hands, I make sure I move my rings and wash under them. Since I started doing this, I haven't had any problems.
