Guest guest
Hello, My son has been taking Valtrex for over a year now (1000 mg daily). We have not seen significant improvement in his behavior/functioning, but bloodwork shows that his HHV6 antibodies have gone down to a third of what they were. His doctor thinks he should continue with the Valtrex for another 6 months to see if we can wipe out the signs of infection. Has anyone else been down this path--where the infection actually goes away with extended use of an antiviral? Does it come back? We are concerned about continuing to use such a large dose of Valtrex, especially since he takes psychotropic meds as well. The doctor believes that viral infection/ is responsible for the " bumpiness " and gray patches on our son's brain, as shown on his SPECT. Apart from still-elevated HHV6 antibodies, my son's bloodwork is now normal. Is it possible that signs of healing just take a long time? Thanks for any input,
