I live in Pa, and I have had many root canals, as the dentist would rather do a root canal and save the tooth, than pull it. But I never have heard of them having to be crowned, maybe I didn't need that at the time, otherwise, I think they just put in a filling after the root canal. I have had good and bad dentists, thankfully most of them were good, but, when I was down and out a few years ago, I had a few nasty, idiot dentists, hard to find a dentist that is really, really good without paying a fortune. I've had two crowned. Both lasted a long time and I still have one

of them. The others fell apart and had to be pulled. One was

pulled by a specialist. Several others would have been pulled by

oral surgeons if I hadn't been on public medical aid at the time.

One was pulled at a low income clinic but really needed to be done

by an oral surgeon; the thing broke in a million pieces and they had

to extract it one tiny matchstick at a time, and they didn't even

have running water. The one that an oral surgeon pulled had fused

to the jawbone.

It sounds like there are people on this list who have barely heard

of a root canal. Where do you all live? The back woods of

Appalachia? In Austin it's hard to find a dentist who will pull a

tooth instead of doing a root canal, even though you can die of a

dental infection, and many people can't afford root canals OR

crowns, OR the cost of having an oral surgeon pull it in a couple of

years.

I have had many root canals when I was younger,

and never had any of them crowned. That's the first I

heard of having to have a root canal crowned.

Re: Root canals...

The only way root canaled teeth would

cause asthma is if you have a reaction to

something used during the procedure, and that

wouldn't last.

Remember that once you have tooth root

canaled you have to spend an extra 700 to a

thousand bucks to have it crowned or it will

break down, and then you'll have to shell out

same amount to have a specialist pull it

because ordinary dentists often can't pull

root canaled teeth. So if you don't have

excellent resources that you will be able to

count on over time it often is far more

trouble than it's worth.

I have and Adult onset Asthma and when

I was diagnosed I didn't have root canal,

but I have a genetic predisposition in my

family and had allergy rhinitis when I was

a child...

For those of you with

wondering how many of you

have three root canaled

convinced that with all

asthma the genetic

there. But I do wonder

about the theory that root

canals can challenge the

immune system in people

with auto-immune

conditions.
