There have been times when I told the dentist , to pull the tooth, and he argued with me to do a root canal, which I absolutely wanted pulled, once I left for another dentist, that agreed the tooth needed pulled, absolutely, and he told me that some dentists make more money by doing unnecessary root canals, some, but not most. I can't believe this many people in 2012 have never had a root

canal. Many dentists in this day and age refuse to pull badly

decayed and abscessed teeth.

Folks, a root canal takes longer than a regular filling, and may

need several visits, and this is the only way it differs from a

regular filling, in terms of what is involved from the patient's

perspective.

Well, it also requires a rubber dam and sustained periods of needing

to keep the tooth dry, but so do some fillings.

It's actually best to have them atleast completed without anesthetic

as in my experience that's more often than not the only way the

dentist can tell if any nerve tissue is left behind. If it is the

root canal will fail and need to be repeated, probably by a

specialist for twice the money.

I have asthma, and have always let the dentist

know, exactly all the meds I am on, and how much,

never had any problem, and I have had a lot of work

done my teeth, root canals, pulled teeth, capped

teeth, on anesthesia, you need to check your dentist

out really good, and make sure you are not sick when

you go, and then as I said, make sure you tell him you

are asthmatic, and what you take, and tell your

regular family Dr. that you are going to a dentist, in

other words cover all bases just in case something

happens, but, nothing happened to me in that respect.

I was more worried about the needles, as I get older,

I am finding out that dental needles really make me

anxious, never did before. LOL.

Re: Root canals...

It's ironic that you're talking about root

canals today because my husband, who has

asthma, is going to have this procedure this

morning. He never had one before.

I have been concerned about how he will

respond to the treatment asthma-wise. He used

his nebulizer earlier this morning, and will

use his rescue inhaler just prior to the

procedure.

If anyone has any advice for an asthmatic

preparing for extensive dental treatment, I

like to hear it.
