Hi , sorry I didn't wave coz it might have been difficult as I fly to Manchester! I live some 300 miles from the Wythenshawe and flying is the cheapest form of travel by far. It cost us about 250 pounds total, that's my boss . . . sorry, wife and I on a return trip. Train is about 600 pounds one way! The flight takes just over an hour, the train takes about 6 hours plus multiple changes. I would drive but it's an 8 hour trip and I'd be knackered before I got there!

My breathing is easing now, think it's because I upped the itracon, I cleared a bucket load of plugs yesterday and it has improved ever since. I have increased preds to 30mg per day, not allowed to go over that dose anymore. My consultant wasn't happy with my constant up and down doses of preds ranging from 5mg to 100mg. So now he has set me a limit of 5mg to 30mg only. If I get too ill then I have to switch to hydrocortisone injections. I swear the bugger doesn't like me!

It'll be interesting to see what happens next time I'm incarcerated in the lap of modern marvellous medicine, the young doctors all think they know it all and will certainly try to go against my consultants wishes. Still, a good argument is great for the breathing! The last time I was imprisoned, a new registra tried to treat me with both aminophylline AND ipratropium at the same time. When I refused the ipratropium he asked why and I told him, in my own shy and retiring way! He responded that he'd never heard of such a danger and I was being silly. Stupid man! I informed him that the reason he'd never heard of it was because all the patients died! The medical profession have their own method of recording death details so on the certificate it would not state that the patient had died due to drug side effects, it would simply say the

patient died of a heart attack. The fact that the plonker who prescribed both medications effectively killed the patient wouldn't cross anyone's mind!

In my case aminophylline speeds up my heart rate, so unfortunately does ipratropium! Hence when prescribed together, both drugs cause my heart to beat like a jackhammer in the hands of an overactive teenager!

Also most doctors in the UK refer constantly to a comic . . . sorry book, called the British National Formulary. The biggest load of rubbish I've ever come across! If more doctors research things on the web as we do, a lot less damage would be done.

OK, rant over. So I'm improving gradually without the assistance of the medical profession this time. Long may it continue! I hope your allergies improve, have you tried vitamin D? It's now widely regarded as the best form of permanent treatment for those with poor immune systems and loads of allergies. I believe lots on this site use it, Holland & Barrett sell it quite cheaply, the NHS hasn't quite caught up with it yet.

So best of luck with your allergies and I hope you health improves soon.

To get to Manchester, you'd have gone through the Cheshire plains, which is apparently the worst part of teh UK for asthma and allergies (I live on the edge of the area, and work in it) so that may not have helped. Did you wave as you went past? I live between J15 and 16, and work between J18 and 19

I'm having issues with allergies again at the moment - think I'll need to head to the doctors again for more flixonase, as that worked well last time. I kept having to put the phone on mute at work so I could cough and clear my throat, which is never good - I use a headset so can't just move it away from my mouth.

And the weather going cold has set my eczema off as well, undoing all the hard work I'd done on it...

Hi all, well I'm well and truly crook again! I survived a bout of pneumonia, a vicious cold and a trip to Manchester but now I'm suffering again. My breathing is tight, sore and a damn nuisance! I've upped my nebs and included atrovent once more, plus I've upped my itraconazole. I refuse to up the preds until I see the reaper walking up my garden path, or my doc beats me round the head with her prescription pad!

I think it's Mr Fun Guy squeezing the living daylights outta my lungs, but in case he's actually innocent this time, is anyone in UK area of our planet suffering allergies due to local flora or maybe even weather conditions?

Personally I think I'm allergic to the Pastie tax . . . . .
