Hi. We just went thru this. We saw mold showing on a bathroom wall on our first floor. We discovered the toilet on the 2nd floor leaked. Insurance would cover that of course but then when they went to rip up the walls and floor to repair the water damage, they found black mold in those areas but also in areas that that water could not have reached. Turns out we also had a roof leak that perhaps was going on for years due to a faulty air compressor connection. We have only been in this home 4 years and it is 10 years old. I have been sick for the last 3 years [starting 6 months after we moved in the house]. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and have symptoms all over the board and am up and down. I don't know if it all has been mold related or not and my drs are not really considering that. I guess they feel it doesn't matter if it is gone now. My symptoms and battle to find out what is going on with my health has been overwhelming and exhausting. I haven't been told I have asthma... I joined this group for the most part as part of my investigation as to what is going on with me and my children.

But back to the mold... the insurance company covered moving my family out for 3 weeks and boarding all of our pets and a mold remediation company came in and cleaned out all of the mold. Due to my immune issues, they acknowledged we couldn't be in the house - we didn't even have to argue about it at all or even give them my medical records. I think the mold remediation was $15,000 and the expenses for my family for those 3 week was over $12,000. Now the insurance is paying to have all of the items repaired. I think you have to read your policy carefully as some have mold exclusions BUT if the damage is classified as water damage... it may still be covered. Before you submit things in writing to your insurance company.... please read and understand your policy... as many insurance companies will look for any way to deny coverage.

Good luck.

I am just wondering if I have someone come clean out our mold problem where do I or the kids live while they are cutting everything up and out of our house. Does the insurance company pay for that?

We have black mold in our master bath and I really want my whirlpool tub fixed too but because a washer over-flowed and then the seals on the front door was faulty, I think

We have mold and a hole in the floor. So about 1/8 of our house needs to be redone now.

My worst season in September and I really don't want to be in the hospital again this Sept or Oct two weekends in a row, my household falls apart. I must be the glue the sticks it together.
