is on allegra during the day with naselcort, flonase at night.

Keeps him pretty clear. We can't use Astelin - ping ping ping.

Dad doesn't do well either on it --

I had nose surgery a few years ago to remove the septum.

We have alot of pollen and crap here in the east.

Allergist tested me with 96 pokes/jabs to see what I might

be allergic to. Nothing. Not one ragweed, oak nor maple.

But I can get really stuffy. Allergist and ENT said I

'had sensitive nasel passages' that when they get dry,

react by overreacting. I use a saline spray a few times a day

and so far so good

Subject: Questions about Sinus Infections

I am having difficulty keeping these darn sinuses clear. We have

tried several antihistamines and wouldn't you know it but they make

him hyper. I can not give tham at night so our current regimen is

Astelin 2 x a day

Nasonex 1 x a day

Ah Chew tablet bedtime(anthistamine/decongestant/antichologenic

combo)

This works pretty well.. but drG wants him clear, and he has a lot

of post nasal drip. It does not seem to be related to any one thing

I can put my finger on. I also run an air puifier in his room at

night. (BTW I have the exact same thing....try to take all the

allergy meds, but constantly have congestion and stuffy ears.)

Any of you successfully dealt with this?

Is it an infection that has just not been treated adequately and

conquered?

Or just allergy? (not a seasonal issue either)

Thanks for any input.

Thanks everybody...looks like we need to keep tweaking. Its hard to

know what works when the environment/seasons change, cold viruses

come and go....etc.

Doris....why is it you cannot use Astelin?

Doris, have you ever tried irrigating your nasal

passages? I did it for awhile and saw improvement,

but I wasn't disciplined enough to continue. You buy

a squirter and then you make your own soln with baking

soda, xylitol and sea salt (no iodine). The otc

saline solns, I've heard, can cause problems due to

the preservatives. I know someone who does this twice

a day and it took care of his constant sinus

infections.

I can give you more details if you are interested.

yep, been there done that. Recommended by the ENTAA after

I had my septum removed.

I buy the salts already made up. I tried making my own

but ouch! had the mixture wrong one day and boy did that hurt!

For those unfamiliar with this process, you use a saline solution

in a Neti pot. You shove the end of the pot in one side

and slightly tip your head. The water runs through to the other

side and out. You feel the saline water running through but

not up into your sinuses. Kind of gross and cool at the same

time. When I was younger, I always got ear infections from swimming.

I had a good one one year and the ENTAA at the time

recommended that I sniff salt water to 'dry up the water behind

the eardrum'. It worked ..

You can sniff the saline water back - but then it goes down

the back of your throat. Not a pretty sight ...

Irrigating your sinuses is like washing your face or

cleaning your ears. There are filters (hairs) in the nose

and this keeps them clean.

The ENTAA said I had really dry nasel passages. This does

help to keep them moist but I still have the drip.

the xylitol is also supposed to kill bacteria. The

soln does sting, tho. It was hard to get my son to do

it.
