Effexor XR works really good for the child that is dealing with hyper issues.

For my oldest, it was added and quickly removed because it was very

bad....crying, angry outbursts, severe migranes. But for the super hyper child,

it slowed his processing down so he could think, and he wasn't running all over

the place. The perfect amt for him is 75mg....we tried 112.5 and it was

horrible. 37.5 was not enough, but 75mg is just right.

The dr tried switching him off of it, and he immediately hyped up again. So it

was quickly added back in.

My hyper (mod/severe autism) child is doing 3 ssri's wellbutrin, effexor and

zoloft. My CFS child is doing wellbutrin and prozac.

Hi -

I took it myself - haven't tried it on my kids (too

young I guess @ 4 & 6)... It was the only type med

(SNRI instead of simply SSRI) that I've ever really

tolerated for any period. It seemed to calm my

hyperness. The only negatives I was aware of were

decreased appetite (I had a bad habit of not eating

till late) and boy if you miss a dose, you feel very

squirelly. It's one that you would definitely have to

taper slowly to not have side effects. Overall, it is

the only SSRI-type med I'll try again for myself.
