Guest guest
We've been with Dr. G for three years (since my son was 2) and my son sounds like yours when he was 2 (lack of language -- good babbling though, lack of gestures, low receptive language and low imitation). It sounds like a long list, but I've watched slowly as my son has improved greatly in many of these areas and just recently he has started to imitate some sounds!!!! In fact, I'm going to take this opportunity to thank everyone on the list who encouraged me so much last fall when I was told by an SLP (two actually) that he would probably never develop language. I thought he would babble forever. And so I tried to get an SLP trained in PROMPT (thanks to a great mom who suggested it to me from this list) and guess what? It has really helped. He's very receptive to PROMPT and he is starting to make progress. Small steps (e.g. he can say " coo " and then " key " for " cookie " but not all at once) but so exciting. Until January he couldn't imitate any sounds -- not one! So all this to say, it gets better. It doesn't happen overnight -- that's for sure -- but it does get better. And this is a great list for getting ideas and encouragement. I was almost ready to give up and then many parents reminded me of how far we all really have come. When I look back to three years ago, they are right. My long list of " can'ts " has been getting shorter and shorter. So I wish you and your son all the best. Rhoda Re: Abnormal EEG with spikes??
