My husband's cousin is an artist and when she was pregnant, she asked

her doctor if it would be safe to continue to paint. It was a

water-based paint and the doc said it was safe to continue. Her daughter

was born with a rare foot/bone disorder and they had to choose to

amputate her foot or she would never be able to walk without crutches.

Mom did some research on this " safe " paint and it turned out quite a few

women who had been exposed to this paint had given birth to babies with

this same defect, even a few teachers who didn't use the paint but who

taught in the same school which turned out to be close to the paint

manufacturing plant.
