Guest guest
perhaps numbing cream 20-30 mins on the injection site prior to injection might help. ________________________________ To: csb-autism-rx Sent: Mon, June 20, 2011 10:10:57 PM Subject: B12 Shots My 12 yr old son is rebelling against the B12 shots. Guest guest
I don't know if this is an option for your son, but we switched from shots to nasal spray several years ago and have never looked back. When our DAN! doc told my daughter that this could be done, she THREW herself in her arms and kissed her! From my perspective, things got better after the switch, if anything. We'd been giving shots every 3 days, and we saw cyclic functioning. However, after beginning twice daily nasal spray, we saw an evening out of functioning, at an improved level. I think the stress of the shots (and we had been using numbing cream) must have had a negative effect overall. Good luck to you and your son!!! Guest guest
Thank you for your experience! I have been thinking to ask about the nasal sprays for awhile. I will get right on it!! He and I have talked about it and he says he is ok with the spray. I don't think it has to do with pain, but more dignity. He is very HF and entering puberty. To have to bare his bottom to Mom and submit to a shot has become degrading in his eyes. Thanks again, > > > > My 12 yr old son is rebelling against the B12 shots. Guest guest
I used to give my sons shots while he slept. Not sure if that will help you or not. You could also take a month off, and than try it in his sleep. -Eileen > > My 12 yr old son is rebelling against the B12 shots. He is begging for any other way to get his B12. Guest guest
Thanks Eileen, but that is not an option with my son. He is too old and would definately wake up feeling betrayed. > > > > My 12 yr old son is rebelling against the B12 shots. He is begging for any other way to get his B12. Guest guest
Mine got nose bleeds when we tried the spray. I think they didn't have the motor skills at the time to sniff it up far enough in the nose...they actually asked to switch back to the shots... near LAX > ** > > > Thank you for your experience! Guest guest
We have been doing the lozenges. However, I do not think that they are enough. I had two injections left. I talked him into taking one several weeks ago, and even he noticed the boost of energy it gave him. About a week ago, he asked for the last one himself. Just yesterday, he was telling me that maybe I need to get some more injections.......I am thinking of asking his doctor to test his B12 status and see what his serum levels are. > > > ** > > > > > > Thank you for your experience! Guest guest
I personally feel testing is a waste of time, money and blood. It is almost impossible to get B12 levels correctly even in research labs, as the levels move around and you never know the true level. The best test is clinical observation, and you already have your answer. Up to 90% or more of ASD kids need and will benefit from MB-12; one of the most important ASD bio-med treatments available - methylation disorder is part of the syndrome in almost all cases. I might take the opportunity here to mention there is no need to swab the injection spot with alchohol - you would have to scrub for 15 minutes to get rid of all organisms on the skin, and high buttock is not a spot that is usually contaminated anyway. Subcut with these tiny needles does not pose an infection threat, and most kids hate the alchohol scrub more than the quickie shot, which is over before most of them even realize it happens. This is a case where tough love should reign in my opinion and mom should get very expert in having it all ready and popping it in in less than a second followed by a big proud smile and a kiss!! ________________________________ To: csb-autism-rx Sent: Tue, June 28, 2011 2:03:44 AM Subject: Re: B12 Shots  We have been doing the lozenges. Guest guest
Klaire also carries sublingual b12 and it tastes good.
Guest guest
Thank you doc! My son is very HF and very big and strong ( 12, almost 13yrs), so overpowering him at this point is moot. I don't really scrub with the alcohol, just a wipe of the area. He has always done better by slowly convincing him that he needs something. I think he is coming around to make the decision that he needs the shots. He is a mito dysfunction kid and he knows that the nutrients have helped him a lot. He is asking questions and I try to help him understand so he can manage his health on his own someday. WHat do you think about spacing the injections out further, say once a week and supporting in between with sublingual?? Can he learn to give himself the injections with supervision? I believe some of his resistance is the need for privacy and baring his bottom to Mom or Dad has just gotten too embarrassing. > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > Thank you for your experience!
