Guest guest
Doris: We have Federal BCBS....does that mean any spect scan's for Dr G have to be done at Brain Matters? I can't afford a trip out to Calif plus the cost of the spect scan. If Dr G isn't using the same clinic and we have to pay out of pocket...we are going to have to forget it ....if BCBS doesn't pick up the fee.... I will not be able to get a repeat scan for my son. We are going to be down to 1 income as I have to quit my job to homeschool my son. Let me know.....a return trip might be out of the question....too bad these can't be done locally, our university hospital has a spect scan machine, but Dr G won't accept the results. thanks Doris and Steve <sjsmith@...> wrote: Narod did call me back. If you call, ask for her personally. But there's another problem. Brain Matters Inc is not a preferred provider with anyone, esp Blue Cross Blue Shield. The cost of the scan is $1800 and BCBS will only pay 1/3 of it. When UCLA was doing the scan, we paid maybe $50 (if that) Unfortunately, we can't afford the scan. We have therapies to pay for, prescriptions, we had to retain a lawyer due to the school system's wonderful program out here ... not to mention our Electrical bill is due to increase 75% by June. Ah well just another way to get money out of our sick children ... doris land Responsibility for the content of this message lies strictly with the original author(s), and is not necessarily endorsed by or the opinion of the Research Institute and/or the Parent Coalition. Guest guest
welcome fellow Fed! :-) Dr Goldberg does use Dr Uzler. I " m looking into his facility now. I've heard a variety of things about him, some good some bad. I'm not sure what type of insurance, if any, he accepts. For BrainMatters, BCBS Fed will only pay 30% You have to pay the remaining $1200 We're also looking at costs because we see Dr Suzi Fosnot when we visit. SLPs do not exist in our area. We have to travel at least 45 min to even come close to seeing one. Dr Suzi wants to start on FastForward to help with his speech delay. FF isn't cheap ... <sigh> doris land > Narod did call me back. Guest guest
Thanks Michele...It is now set up with Laurie to help you guys schedule scans. Brain Matters is overwhelmed but our patients do not require the usual intake they do on a person that walks in off the street. Laurie is checking pricing for Dr. G's patients. PLease let her help you if you need to schedule. Dorris I think Laurie has contacted you. Sorry for any inconvience. Brain Matters Inc are actually really niece people who want to help the children and help advance the science Dr. G is doing. Guest guest
I just got off the phone with Narod from BrainMatters. Very nice lady who told me alot of exciting stuff. Like BrainMatters will be opening a facility in Washington State in the next 90 days and they are looking at places on the east coast! Now a few things to keep in mind if Dr Goldberg decides a spect is in the works for your child: - BrainMatters was born out of a need for the service. Why was this valuable service only found on the West Coast? The owners tried talking with the Amen Clinic. When that failed, they contacted Dr Mena. and OUILA! - the service Dr Goldberg's patients get at the center is unique and tailored to Dr Goldberg's specs. Carmen is still the tech who carries out the single scan. And to the best of my knowledge, the injection of the isotope is still done the same way - ka-ching and you wait 1 hr. BrainMatters does things a bit differently for its other patients. They get 2 scans and an IV for 15 min. - Dr Goldberg's patients are also considered VIPs because of the relationship he has with Dr Mena. This means preferred appts. - a new spect machine is also on the horizon. It will create even clearer pictures with more information. Date of installation -soon Laurie is your POC for a referral and appt. She calls/faxes the referral in and calls you within 2 business day to set up an appt. 877 570 2650 is 's number (I have permission from her to post this #) said they NEVER expected the reaction they got from the Dr Phil show. She said it was just 2 of them (wo)manning the desk until the show was broadcasted Now, there are 7 of them. I told to hold our appt for now <sigh> We're going to see what we can do about locating funding. Oh did say that Federal BCBS is the ONLY BCBS company they are having problems with. The standard non-federal BCBS will pay alot more towards the cost of the scan. Gee isn't it great that I love my country so much I want to continue to be a fed? doris land
