Janelle, I am not the right person to ask although I too have exercise induced asthma as well as other lung problems and at times it is very difficult for me to tell whether my problems are Sjogren's/Lupus or asthma related. When my asthma happens to me I become very constricted around my entire chest and the pain is unbearable but then my breathing seems to be the same and that's why I am not sure if asthma strikes me differently. I was told by both my pulmonologist and rheumy NOT to exercise when my lungs constrict and at that point I would not consider using the albuterol. I guess what I'm saying is if you feel any pain or constriction even after using the albuterol then do not go running and wait until your chest cavity/muscles are totally relaxed. I know we are all different but for me if it's humid, hot and sunny out my lungs become constricted and I will find myself going anywhere where there is air conditioning rather than being outdoors. Your pulmonary function test should tell them exactly what your lung problems are so I would wait until you know the results before attempting to go walking/jogging and then do light exercises at home where you are near your air conditioner. Best of luck to you,Sharon/NYFrom:Janelle Subject: Exercise-induced asthmaDate:June 18, 2012 8:28:08 PM EDTTo:asthma Ok, last week I asked about exercise-induced asthma. Today I went in to see my PCP. They took my pulse ox at rest, and it was 99% They then had me walk over to the check-out counter and back (about 15 second walk), and it had dropped to 95%. She told me that she'd expect that big a drop if she had me on the treadmill for 20 minutes, not simply a walk down the hall. What do you all think? They were concerned and took chest x-rays and are setting up an appointment for a pulmonary function test. What can I expect at this test? I'm probably anemic, could that account for that big of a drop in O2 sat? She prescribed an albuterol inhaler (man, these things are pricey!). I'm going to go ahead and try it out and go for a run tonight to see if I can tell any difference.Any thoughts and/or info is appreciated!Thanks,-- Janellehomemadethisandthat.blogspot.com
