Hi Ora, I and thousands nay maybe millions of asthmatics and those with respiratory conditions use this drug as Albuterol (US) or Salbutamol (UK). I have no doubt many also suffer some form of problem when taking this drug. Myself I often find I actually feel worse for a few moments after administering the drug via nebuliser or inhaler, before my breathing begins to settle again.

I did once stop using it but my consultants all flew into a egg laying panic and insisted I stay on it, the conscquence of not using, in my case, were not to behold it seems.

I cannot honestly corillate any interaction or side effect from using albulerol with oxygen, however if your sats (saturated oxygen levels) are already good, then there seems little point in using oxygen as well.

Too much oxygen can cause some discomfort and of course albuterol has it's own little set of quirks.

Salbutamol (INN) or albuterol (USAN) is a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is marketed as Ventolin among other brand names.

Adverse effects The most common side effects are fine tremor, anxiety, headache, muscle cramps, dry mouth, and palpitation.[5] Other symptoms may include tachycardia, arrhythmia, flushing, myocardial ischemia (rare), and disturbances of sleep and behaviour.[5] Rarely occurring, but of importance, are allergic reactions of paradoxical bronchospasm, urticaria, angioedema, hypotension, and collapse. High doses may cause hypokalaemia which are of concern in patients with renal failure and those on certain diuretics and xanthine derivatives.[5]

However I must point out here that albuterol/salbutamol is considered a safe drug and oxygen is considered highly important for the maintaining of ones health. So I don't think I would worry but next time you visit a doctor, simply explain your concerns and seek reassurance.

Hope this helps.

Can you use them each individually? Using them together shouldn't be any different.

Recently I have been hospitalized three times for my asthma, COPD andother problems. During those visits I have learned that when I useOxygen and albuterol I have a lot of breathing problems. Has anyoneelse noticed such a connection between albuterol and Oxygen?Ora
