Hi all,

Based on this information, it appears that Mc's fries are

probably safe to let the kids have -- at least, once in a while.

From the Schaffer Report:

Mc`s Sued Over Fries

The Golden Arches are under fire for their french fries. This

time it

is because they contain wheat and milk. The next time you are at

Mc`s

and a cashier asks " A side of fries with that? " , consider this. Those

fries

contain wheat and milk ingredients. The addition of that sentence to the

fast food chain`s online nutritional information has angered vegans,

lactose

and wheat-intolerant fries-buyers alike.

According to the site www.foodintol.com, as much as 75 percent

of the

world`s population have some degree of lactose intolerance. Up to 15

percent

are wheat-intolerant. A Mc`s spokeswoman says wheat and milk

derivatives are present in the flavoring added to the oil in which the

fries

are cooked, but the protein that causes wheat or dairy allergies is

removed.

Some consumers have filed lawsuits against the company, including a

Florida couple whose 5-year-old daughter suffers from Autism and Celiac

Disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by grains containing gluten,

such

as wheat. The lawsuit alleges that eating the fries caused the young

girl to

become seriously ill.

In recent days, Mc`s re tested its fries. In a statement,

Mc`s says it " Has confirmed again that our fries are gluten free and

allergen free. Based on this analysis, we believe the lawsuits filed are

without legal merit. "

Other leading fast-food chains claim their fries are food-intolerant

friendly. `s says its fries are cooked in pure vegetable oil. Burger

King`s website states milk and wheat allergens are not present in its

fries.
