Guest guest
Nic just had his T & A and tubes done on June 27th. He did so well, I had to look down his throat with a flashlight to make sure they didn't forget to remove the tonsils. He showed no signs of any pain until about day 8 or so and even then it was minor. He was eating chips and pretzels the next day. The Dr said let him eat whatever he wants!! The scabs don't get as thick when they eat " rough " foods. Thick scabs can get knocked off and cause allot of bleeding (which at times needs cauterization). All kids are different and Nic's experience may be rare but I was very worried too before it was done. They wanted to keep him overnight in ICU but moved him out around 9PM because he was doing so well. Good luck. Guest guest
Dawn, had her tonsils out a while back and she did great. I was more nervous than she was. She did eat lots of popsicles. And we were told to stay aways fromt he hard stuff for awhile. She did have some some pain for a botu a week after the surgery. She would touch her touch and sign hurt. (Which she stills does to this day if her throat hurts.) She really didn't complain much - she didn't like the pain med and refused to take it or would gag and spit it up. It really wasn't a big thing. Good luck. Kathy

Guest guest
Hi Dawn had her tonsils out when she was 20 months ago. Time has dulled my memory, but 2 things that still remain are this. First, Tylenol with Codiene for pain. loved this stuff. When the codiene hit, she was flying high, and so funny. Second, about a week after surgery, her voice became slightly husky, and she cried when she swallowed. Her surgeon said there were small scabs on the incision lines that had fallen off, as they were supposed to. He gave her some medicine for that, and she was fine. Best of luck, we'll be thinking about y'all. -- Sharon, Mom to (9, DS) and (6) However, here I am now freaking out about 's upcoming surgery this Thursday. He is going in for a tonsilectomy. Guest guest
Hi, I had this problem as a child. I would miss at least a month of school each year due to tonsils. I had them removed in 7th grade, but they grew back and still inflamed. I discovered that I was highly sensitive to refined sugar. When I cut it out, my tonsils stopped inflaming and the other symptoms you described went away also. My children tried to have tonsil problems, but, I took them off refined sugar and their tonsils stopped inflaming. Maybe this would be helpful to you too. ~Karma http://www.karma.awarenesshealth.com http://www.loaves-n-fishes.com > Hello Group, > > Does anyone have any information on tonsil infections? > > I have been the beneficiary of many positive effects from following > the various regimens of Dr. and I believe her books should be > in every home. My throat used to be inflamed almost all year round... once the left side, then the right side. They wanted to take my tonsils out, but because we were too poor (in Europe), we could not afford it. Now, I am glad that I still have them. For at least 15 years I did not have any sore throats.

What is interesting to me is that recurring strep can lead to Rheumatic Fever, which I had as a child, which is another autoimmune disorder. (connection?) Also, I still get strep a lot. I just figured it was because I am an easy target with the Rheumatic Fever background. Maybe the PA is another reason. I don't have tonsils and haven't had since age 3, so can't help you there. I can only tell you I don't get sore throats - it " always " leads to strep. in Wylie Texas [
Guest guest
Funny you should mention tonsils. I was a very sickly child because of tonsils. I grew up in one of the times it was in vogue in the medical community in Southern California to leave them in. They finally took them out when I was 17 years old. I had a chronic infection behind them and spent 3 days in the hospital and they left the adenoids. I often wonder how much having a 15 year chronic tonsil infection and the associated antibiotics and other drugs taken every year had to do with me developing PA. R. E. Guest guest
I hate being the odd one, but here's what happened. Back in the last part of the 50's there was an experiment done by some the hospitals (I'm not sure if it was confined to the mid-west) on newborn babies. They removed their tonsils shortly after birth. I was one of them. I never got tonsillitis as a child, although I had many other problems (strep, ear infections, and other infections) All during that period I thought I had tonsils. It wasn't until I was a teenager and had to have a physical for enrollment in high school, that the doctor told me that he could only find scar tissue where my tonsils were supposed to be. And when my mother started to check into my medical records to find out why, she found out about the tonsillectomies on babies. At any rate, ironically, my tonsils regrew as an adult. They're somewhat abnormally shaped, but I now occasionally have boughts of tonsillitis. Now I'm wondering what impact that might have had on my immune system as a child. lindaj@... Guest guest
, It's weird how certain surgeries are done, depending on when you were raised. My son (born in 1977) had tubes put in his ears because of all his ear infections. That was a common surgery then, like getting tonsils out in the 50s was. My son still got ear infections after that until I took him off milk. At the time I asked doctors if it could be milk and they all said no. I got no support, but that's another story. When I was in my 20s I had an ovarian cyst removed and the surgeon removed my appendix (with my permission) because he was in there. Now we know that tonsils and appendixes (appendices?) are indeed useful organs to help keep infection away from the body, even though a healthy body can function without them. Guest guest
Hi all - I used to suffer terribly with strep and sore throats every winter, but never had my tonsils removed. Since I've been taking anti-virals, I haven't had any sore throats. By the way, I had mono when I was five - seems to be the origin of my sore throat problems.
