Guest guest
Dr. McCandless, Stop Calling It Autism! launched a medical disease registry almost two months ago and we are already noticing something that was studied in one of the studies you have been part of. We have been noticing that a surprisingly high number of children with autism have either a low absolute NK Cell count or have decreased Decreased NK Cell cytotoxicity. One very important detail is that Natural Killer (NK) cells, are a very important component of the cell-mediated arm of the immune system. Based on the CDC's Vaccination of Persons with Primary and Secondary Immune Deficiencies document, children suffering from primary immune deficiencies (including the cell mediated category) should not receive live vaccines due to the risk of acquiring the disease from the vaccine strains. Live vaccine includes MMR, MMRV, OPV, LAIV, yellow fever, varicella, zoster, rotavirus, and vaccinia (smallpox). I am curious to know if you and the other 14 doctors and medical researchers discuss the relationship between cell-mediated immune defects and the clear contraindications that this is for many live vaccines. Live vaccine includes MMR, MMRV, OPV, LAIV, yellow fever, varicella, zoster, rotavirus, and vaccinia (smallpox). Wouldn't it be common sense and imperative to order a comprehensive immune system workup as the one being used in the SCIA's Medical Disease Registry prior to administering these vaccinations to children? Decreased NK cytotoxicity is associated with impaired immune surveillance, and may explain a predisposition to malignancies and viral infections.
