Hi Everyone,We are now unable to get our insurance to cover Zyrtec as it comes

OTC. What other allergy meds are there? We used to take Claritin before Zyrtec

but it is OTC also. With all the $ we spend on meds, it would be really nice to

find a new allergy med that our insurance will cover. If anyone has any ideas, I

am very interested. We have a phone consult on Thursday so I'm sure Dr. G will

have some ideas also. Her ASO and HHV6 numbers are finally coming down and I

don't want to mess that up.Thanks,

Hi ,

The Zyrtec syrup is only about 12.50 per bottle. About two of those bottles

makes the size of the one we used to get through the pharmacy and we had to pay

a $50 copay to get it so for us OTC is cheaper. Also, there is a printable

coupon at the Zyrtec website which may help. (I was able to print 2 of them)

Also the Zyrtec is still tax deductible even though it is over the counter if

your medical bills reach some percentage of your income (I think 10%) which with

phone consults, prescriptions, etc it probably does. Just keep your receipts.

Hope this helps.

My son does great with a very small dose of chlortrimeton (he's 5 and gets

1/4 tablet at bedtime). A bottle of 100 or so tablets was around $4. I had

to ask the pharmacist for it; they keep it behind the counter even though

it's non-prescription. This is the one Dr. G recommended for my little guy.

Btw its about time Zyrtec became OTC - in Singapore its been OTC for years

- costs $S27 for 30 which is $US18.

I remember getting a prescriptiuon here once from Dr G because we ran out,

and with out US medical insurance it cost $US94!

And now suddenly it's the same price as in Singapore. Difference is that if

purchased at the pharmacy or dispensed by a Dr (in Singapore the Dr's have a

dispensary) the price is the same.

More evidence that the US health insurance system is in need of a fix!

Thanks so much, everyone, for your info. I was shocked, , by

your insurance cost for Zyrtec. We used to get 3 months for $15!

Have a great week and thanks again,

My sons take Dytan. That's not one Dr G used before

but the others were making one of my sons very

irritable, and this one is pretty well tolerated by

them.

Their circles under the eyes aren't totally gone but

since there are no sinus symptoms, it's probably food

and/or viral.
