Guest guest
Hi Sue, Thank you for the information about the infectious disease doctor ! I read a little about Actos tonight, and I'm wondering why your doctor would consider using in to control symptoms of Pandas? I really couldn't find anything in my search ( very limited ) that shows that it would benefit children with immune dysfunction. Just curious, did she explain why she believes it might help? Thanks again and take good care,
Guest guest
>Hi , Actually, I provided our Infectious Disease doctor with the info. Actos is a thiazolidinedione type drug which is an agonists of the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARy) a nuclear hormone which modulates insulin sensitivity and have been shown to induce apoptosis in activated T-lymphocytes and exert anti-inflammatory effects in glial cells. There is a study in PubMed central @ www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi. It is about the effects of actos treatment on behavioral symptoms in autistic children. Some of the children had PANDAS. as well as other autoimmune illnesses. The medication had positive effects on 4 out of 5 subcategories of autistic behaviors. Irritibility, hyperactivity, lethargy, stereotypy. The article gets in more detail than I can. I realize Actos does not address immune dysfunction per se, but does help with neuro inflammation. This should help my son because 6 months ago when had strep, He was on Prednisone which temporaily helped his autistic symptoms. He played appropriately which he hadn't done in 2 years. I am just trying to get improved function for him until there is something out there to treat immune dysregulation. He is in first grade and can't set still long enough to print his name, listen to a story, or play with a toy. We are losing the battle here. ADHD drugs made his OCD go through the roof. I guess right how I am trying to help him function better by treating his autoimmune issues. Sorry for the long post. Take Care. Hope this makes sense, Sue > > Hi Sue, > > Thank you for the information about the infectious disease doctor ! > > I read a little about Actos tonight, and I'm wondering why your doctor would consider using in to control symptoms of Pandas?
