Guest guest
My son has been on the diet since mid-December. He is increasingly having more and more problems with constipation as we have become quite firm on two-pieces-of-fruit-a-day rule. Before the diet, he loved and ate almost too much fiberous food in the form of cereal and fruit. He has always loved shredded wheat and other cereals most kids would reject. You should see his face when I won't buy organic shredded wheat anymore! My son has started to eat some veggies, but not enough to make up for a diet otherwise lacking in fiber. He drinks lots of water, so I know he has enough fluid. This past week his stomach has been especially hard, and it has ballooned out at times. I know he's very uncomfortable, even though he has no speech right now. I'm about to go pick up some Citrocell, as suggested by Dr. G's office, but I'd love to know if anyone has been able to handle this problem naturally. I remember reading that flax seed is acceptable, so I thought about adding that to his pancakes. Surely, other parents have encountered this problem. Thanks for any advice you could throw my way. I want my boy to feel better quickly.
Guest guest
Do you have him on probiotics? That's my first recommendation. I think Dr G has recommended small amounts of mineral oil before... Last of all, I would suspect that something *new* is potentially causing some inflamation and reducing movement... their gi tracts can be so reactive at first. Also, I saw yeast do that to my boys. You'd think reducing fruit, you'd be reducing yeast too. If it doesn't improve in a couple of weeks, I'd get suspicious about foods. Also, if you notice pencil-thin stools, I believe that is more connected to inflammation than actual constipation. Guest guest
I'm curious....what were his bowel habits before the diet change? Has the diet change had any other benefits? My son suffers too with constipation, but it could be related to another problem from birth. thanks > > My son has been on the diet since mid-December. Guest guest
Anyone tried Zantac? It is a histamine-2 blocker?? A friend said her doctor put her daughter on it for hives that they could not detect the root cause and it has helped! Just wondering if a different histamine type med would be helpful? > > > My son has been on the diet since mid-December. > > He is > > increasingly having more and more problems with > > constipation as we > > have become quite firm on two-pieces-of-fruit-a-day > > rule. > > > > Before the diet, he loved and ate almost too much > > fiberous food in > > the form of cereal and fruit.
