Bill,

our BCBS Fed provider has a mailorder prescription service available.

We've never been able to get Dr G to write us a prescription for

'multiple months'.

during one trip to 's local ped, we mentioned about how the

prescriptions

were so expensive, Giant pharmacy should give us stock ..

she said 'how about I give you a prescription to mail in?'

She did, we did, and can now get 6 mths at a pop for $35 (if she writes

it correctly).

Even at $35 / month it would be a savings over what we were paying for

Valtrex

($225 w/ insurance)

But we have to be careful because needs brand name. If she doesn't

write the prescription just so .. or the drug co gets slick ... we get

the generic.

Doris:

Is there a generic for valtrex?

My son is on famvir, but his?insurance coverage authorizes only the generic for

famvir. I have not asked for my son to be switched back to Valtrex, just because

the of the price differential ($150 per month)is so huge, we just can't afford

it with all of the other expenses on other meds, treatments, etc.

If there now is? a generic for valtrex that would be good news.

thanks,

Apparently valtrex is the generic or trade name.

According to our Pharm there is no other available.

Rollie,

We are on Valtrex and asked Dr. G to give us a 3 month prescription

so we could do mail order. I wish we had done it earlier! It is

sooooo much cheaper. We pay less for 3 months than we spent on one

month at the local pharmacy. Now we do all her meds like this. It is

really cost saving.

Good luck,

For those who don't know about ordering 3-month

supplies:

I believe the mail order plan uses is a

specific benefit through her insurance policy - not

accessible to everyone, but often accessible to people

who don't even know about it.

Many insurance plans have the 3-month supply

prescription plan. The average plan provides 3 months

supply for the cost of 2 copays, saving one month in

cost. Sounds like you have an even better one at one

copay. :)

The best plan is to ask your human resources dept if

you have that benefit - if your insurance is through

the employer. Otherwise, you call your insurance

company or your pharmacy provider if it is a separate

group - sometimes it will say on your card. Your

customer service rep should be able to give you info

.... but not always, so ask both places if insured

through a group policy. Sometimes they are not even

connected to your primary insurance group with some of

the larger corporations. Ask about mail order

prescription savings plans.

You rock! I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I order it through BCBS

and I can access it through our website with our insurance

number. Dr. G faxes the into to them and we get it in a few

days. Easy, cheap, what could be better?

We have mail order through our Rx insurance, too. We have medco and

it does save a lot of money. You do need to use brick and mortar

pharmacies, too for certain things - like abx that you can't wait a

week to get, etc. But it's nice and easy for your regular meds.
