Forgot to add that it may be that she is just getting to where she can see anything clearly and it may clear up... if not, you can always dilute down some eyebright.

This Mom most definitely needs to be concerned RIGHT NOW! I have lazy eye and it is horrible. I was patched as a kid but no one really enforced it so I removed the patch when I was out of my mothers site/at school. My 'good' eye is weakening now and its really scary. I also have a 9yo son with same thing. No one found his until it was too late - pretty much for him. He should have been patched along time ago. The earlier it is caught the better chance there is to be able to correct it. Maybe 5 mon. is too early but from where I sit if it was my baby I would seriously consider it - no matter what the Dr. says. You can buy eye patches at any drug store.

For an older child, I think I would try an eyebright solution (distilled water) and a drop of DMSO... if it were me.

I

wanted to comment on the baby formula recipes-I would stay far away from soy for infants. It’s like feeding

your child estrogen and it has the potential to really mess up thyroid function

as well.

Donna,

I just found these in old posts...

(I wanted to make sure I had told you right regarding Nutramigen, so I went

to the website and searched back a couple years on the archives).

I'm not sure what the " Bulletin Board " is or if it even exists anymore.

QUESTION:

Does anyone know what Dr. G recommends for a dairy-free infant formula?

ANSWER:

Dr. Goldberg does not automatically recommend dairy-free formula for at-risk

siblings. He feels that some of the dairy-based formulas are OK because the

processing renders the proteins harmless. He just made this point on the

bulletin board two weeks ago in his answer to a question re whole. processed

grains. One of his archived answers also recommends Carnation Good Start or

Nutramigen.

From my research, I think Nutramigen (an Enfamil product) is better

tolerated by most kids. Our 4-month-old baby girl is doing beautifully on

it. She is VERY happy, alert, strong, etc. She's been on it since she

starting to reject nursing very early on (stopped at 9 weeks).

Nutramigen is far more expensive than regular formula, but the extra two

thousand $$ or so that it will cost during her 1st year is a small price for

what we feel is the best insurance policy available.

At our last appointment, Dr. Goldberg asked about our daughter and commented

that she looked like a very bright, alert child. I joked that all babies

should have to be on Nutramigen until they figure this thing out.

AND FROM ANOTHER POST:

During our last phone consult Dr. G mentioned starting out with a soy

formula if I bottle feed, keeping in mind that we might have to switch to a

less allergenic formula like Enfamil Nutramigen. I told him I had planned

on just starting with Nutramigen and he said that was fine. Since then I've

come across the formula " Nestle Good Start SOY Supreme " . Like Nutramigen it

also has DHA & ARA and the proteins are already broken down.
