Guest guest
Hi , I have no experience with what you're going through, except from what I've learned with my twins and food intolerances, and what an offending food can do to the immune system and creating excess mucous in the body, which then leads to the need for lots of antibiotics... You've probably investigated diet extensively, but just in case, have you tried a total elimination diet, just to see how he responds? When my baby girl was an infant/toddler she was very sick and it turned out to be an intolerance to corn. To find this out, we put her on a strict lamb and rice diet, and within a couple of days she was already showing much improvement. We reintroduced a new food every 3-4 weeks (it took her 3.5 weeks to show intolerance to some), so we went about this very seriously and very slowly. Food allergy testing DID NOT reveal the foods she did not tolerate. We found out only by doing the elimination diet (I found help from " The Complete Guide To Food Allergies and Intolerance " , and also from her pediatrician and an allergist). Please note the doctors were helpful for us only once I suggested to them that intolerances, not allergies, may be the problem (and it was another mom who had BTDT with her daughter that guided me). I hope you are able to find answers for your son. All the best, Kristy Re:Total IgG deficiency Hi all, Well, after all these years on the protocol, we finally found out that our son has a total IgG deficiency. has recurrent sinus infections and unexplained fevers whenever he's off an antibiotic for more than two days. This has been a constant for many years but due to his complicated history, no one looked into it. ( although I tried to get many physicians at our children's hospital to listen!!!! ) Last week he was worked up for his growth hormone deficiency and acidosis, so my husband added the total IgG and IgA to the lab order. His IgA is o.k. but total IgG is very low as is his Globulin level. Those of you who have children with this problem please email me regarding treatments. Funny, we were about to set up IVIG treatment for PANDAS, I think the bigger picture is unfolding! I'm so glad that we've been on the protocol for so long, as I think this is what saved him. Without the antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals, his immune system would never have been able to fight off infections and viruses. Thanks so much and take care,
Guest guest
Why didn't Dr. G pick this up? I know he pulled an immune panel with all the Ig's for us at the end of last summer. Do you know if this is something that can change significantly? Is it something we should be checking periodically? I ask this because my son is the same way. He must be on antibiotics, too, in order to not get bronchitis. Guest guest
I'm curious too if the original labs that Dr G did showed the deficiency. I also wonder if he would have done anything different anyway - I kind of doubt it. I know sometimes our kids will have quite low IgG (and others) and yet after time on the protocol, the IgG increases. My boys had a couple of low subclasses - those came up on the protocol - all IgG numbers improved a bunch. But they didn't have an overall deficiency. He did monitor our IgG levels at least yearly. I know another kid who has constant chronic infections (ie strep, mycoplasma, sinus, bronchitis, etc etc) and just had his immune workup (thru local ped, not Dr G) and everything came back " great " . I'll bet Dr G wouldn't agree. They didn't check natural killer cells - I'd bet they're low - although 2% is still *technically* within 'normal limits'. We'll be interested - keep us updated! --- Cheryl Lowrance <c.lowrance@...> wrote: > Why didn't Dr. G pick this up? Guest guest
Hi Cheryl and , When started the protocol, Dr. G wasn't taking new patients, so my husband (a physician) got in touch with Dr. Bruce (Dr. G's staff wouldn't let him talk to Dr. G ??), anyway, Dr. Bruce went over the protocol and we've been doing it ourselves with the help of many different doctors over the years. is complicated due to his Chiari 1 Malformation as well. I'll pull his original immune panel tonight and let you know what it says. I seem to remember that his NK cell count was low and his MMR titers were very high, but can't remember what else was wrong. It's funny when you have an Ah-ha moment like I did today, it all makes sense to me now, he's had MRSA meningitis, but he also had neurosurgery, so who knows, he's had sepsis ( unknown species of bacillis) and like I said chronic sinus infections, ear infections, viral infections, and who knows what else?? It's a wonder he's doing so well otherwise, I'll write later tonight. Thanks for getting back to me so soon. Take care, @...: c.lowrance@...: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 15:07:38 -0700Subject: Re: Re:Total IgG deficiency Why didn't Dr. G pick this up?
