Guest guest
well...if he understands the languages..i'd say there goes their theory. My son understands alot of words in 3 languages as well. his apraxia just makes it harder for him to speak it. sandy ________________________________ From: a delamadrid <lgnyc123@...> Sent: Wed, April 21, 2010 9:25:32 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Speech  We are a Trilingual family and I have heard so many people tell me yes and so many people tell me no. I am glad that you asked this question because my son is almost 3 and is just now starting to really talk. He was almost silent up to 2 years and 4 months. They thoughtit was Apraxia, but CPSE is now calling it a speech delay and the EIOD even blamed the trilingualism. Any thoughts? ____________ _________ _________ __ From: Y <rosadodm4189@ student.faytechc c.edu> @groups. com Sent: Tue, April 20, 2010 9:05:55 PM Subject: [childrensapraxiane t] Speech Is bilingualism responsible of delays on speech in some children
Guest guest
I know a family who lives in UEA who have a trilingual household. They have six children, the first three learned language just fine, but the fourth didn't speak at all until he was 3 or 3 1/2 and they came to the states to visit family. That summer he started speaking in all three languages at the same time. It was like he had too many words to sort through and file into the separate languages before talking. His older siblings didn't have that though, I think it just has to do with the individual's personality. My nephew that I mentioned last night was the same, but he was in a bilingual household. He was 3 before talking. Liralen > > We are a Trilingual family and I have heard so many people tell me yes and so many people tell me no. Guest guest
My parents grew up in Europe without speech delay in homes where Croatian, German, Russian and English were spoken. There is a book written by a mom who is a Neurologist whose specialty is the brain. Her book explains the way we acquire and use language among other things. Fascinating stuff. Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Going-There-Brain-Develop/dp/0553378252/ref=sr_1_1?i\ e=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1271868117 & sr=1-1 It's called " What's going on in there. " The first 5 years...By lisa Elliot. Every mom should read this one to begin to understand how the brain works from birth to age 5. > > Is bilingualism responsible of delays on speech in some children >
