Guest guest
hey Noel- has been up/down these past 9 yrs (8 yrs since ). met all milestones until 18mths when he regressed. Lost all speech and behavior went out the ceiling. 's behavior has always been the problem - if you get the behavior and anxiety under control, he's a very bright and funny kid. SPECT scans show hot/cold spots consistant with behavior. We did ABA for 3.5 yrs where may significant steps forward. Unfortunately, we plcd him in our local school district. BIG mistake. Over the course of 3-4 yrs, they undid everything we did. He regressed yet again. Anxiety and stress can do weird things to the immune system that no medicine or protocol can fix. We finally got a lawyer and $25k later, he has a successful plcmt at Kennedy Krieger. They understand the behavior, work with it and teach him at the same time. He has gone from multiple episodes of anxiety (aggression) a day to maybe 1x month. He has resumed reading and he has made friends (who were all invited to his Birthday Beach bash last year). Social anxiety still alludes us and we continue to have anxiety over public bathrooms. Nice changes started to occur around his 12th birthday (last Sept). Research and Dr G have indicated this is an important time for brain development. Hormones kick in which IS a good thing ! :-) While he's really sensitive to casein, we've been able to add some gluten (esp spelt) and eggs back into his diet. Allergies hit us hard - living in the Md area we are a SOUP of everything from pollen to mold. seems to be really sensitive to mold. We've been unable to locate a local allergist who can fully address the issue. can do anything he wants to do when HE wants to do it :-) He has household chores; he learned to ride a 2-wheel bike; he's pretty good at 1:1 soccer; and a darn good swimmer. We're looking at local gyms and rec centers to see about tapping that continuous supply of energy he seems to have. All in all, he finally going forward instead of backward and we're enjoying it :-) But it has been a long 8 yrs and we're not done yet. doris -maryland Posted by: " NOEL SCHNEIDER " schneid99@... <mailto:schneid99@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20SPECT> schneid2000 <schneid2000> Sat Mar 15, 2008 7:12 pm (PDT) Hi Doris, can I asked how your son is doing now? socially, academically? thanks for your help, my son has been with Dr. G for 5 mons. on valtrex, ssri, and nizoral...but he is only 3 1/2 years old, I worry about using so many drugs, especially the ssri...any help is appreciated.
